On a Charlie McCarthy radio show from the early 1940s, there is this exchange when Charlie and guest star Judy Garland go shopping at a department store for a Father's Day gift for her dad:
JUDY: Oh, this tie will be perfect for my father!
CHARLIE: Aren't you going to get me something too?
JUDY: Why, Charlie, no. This is for Father's Day.
CHARLIE: Well, ain't I your sweet daddy?
What did he mean by that?
