The 1969 Film of 'Sweet Charity' directed by Bob Fosse is due out on Blu-ray in a few weeks. Amazon mentions it will be 2 discs, 'The Road-Show' version, and 'The Happy Ending' version. I haven't seen the film since it was on video-tape, but that version had an ending that, though different, had the same general 'feeling' as the ending of the film of which it was based upon, Federico Fellini's 'Nights of Cabiria'. Can anyone who's actually seen 'The Roadshow Version', describe the differences? Thanks!

Here's the "happy ending":

Oscar asks Charity to marry him, despite his learning that she is a dancehall hostess. However, when he meets her Fandango chums at the Marriage License Bureau and gets a good look at Charity's tattoo, he is unable to go through with the wedding. After Oscar leaves Charity, he starts to go crazy in his apartment. He then realizes that despite Charity's faults, he really can't live without her. He finds Charity on the bridge in Central Park and, thinking she's going to jump, falls into the lake. Charity jumps in after Oscar and forgives him. The two then walk off together, soaking wet, through the park.

Bob Fosse thought this ending was too corny, and decided to use the more downbeat, yet more inspirational, ending for the film's major release.

And here is the original, roadshow ending:

Oscar asks Charity to marry him, despite his learning that she is a dancehall hostess. However, when he meets her Fandango chums at the Marriage License Bureau and gets a good look at Charity's tattoo, he is unable to go through with the wedding. Once again alone and abandoned, Charity wanders through Central Park until she finds herself at the bridge where Charlie deserted her. As she broods over her fate, a group of flower children hand her a daisy and thus renew her faith in what tomorrow will bring.
