STAR TREK---William Shatner said he would like to return as Capt. Kirk in Quentin Tarantino's movie if Tarantino is interested, "Quentin Tarantino said something in the paper that somebody said to me, that he loved me. And Quentin, I love you. If you're going to do STAR TREK 50 years later, a few pounds heavier, come on. Not a problem!"
Shatner said his health problems could be a factor in returning, "Well, I'd like to do it. Whether I'd be up for it, I don't know."
Earlier, Tarantino talked about Shatner, “I’m a big fan of the show STAR TREK. I really like it a lot, but my portal into that show is William Shatner. I love William Shatner on STAR TREK. I love his performance as James T. Kirk. That is my connection. That is my umbilical cord. It’s why I like STAR TREK more than STAR WARS because William Shatner’s not in STAR WARS. I think it’s one of the greatest performances in the history of episodic television, of a series lead..."
Also, for the 40th anniversary of STAR TREK: THE MOTION PICTURE, the 1979 Robert Wise movie will be re-released in theaters for two days only on September 15 and 18. Also, talks are underway with Paramount Pictures for the remastered Director's Edition to be released on Blu-ray and 4K.

BLACK WIDOW---Rachel Weisz said there are multiple Black Widows in the Scarlett Johansson movie, "There are quite a number. I'm a Black Widow and there's Scarlett and Florence [Pugh]. There's quite a bit of other characters you'll also meet that are Black Widows." Her character is named Melina, and fan speculation is that she might be playing Iron Maiden or Taskmaster.

THOR: LOVE AND THUNDER---in reply to a post about eight superhero candidates for Valkyrie's lesbian lover in LOVE AND THUNDER, Lady Sif actress Jaimie Alexander volunteered by tweeting, "raises hand".

THE MANDALORIAN---Giancarlo Esposito hinted about his character in the STAR WARS tv series, “You might call him an underworld character. You may also look at him as a savior, as someone who might bring back some order to the world after it’s all collapsed.”

ONCE UPON A TIME IN HOLLYWOOD---Bruce Lee's daughter, Shannon, is not happy with how her father was portrayed in the Quentin Tarantino movie, "I understand they want to make the Brad Pitt character this super bad-ass who could beat up Bruce Lee. But they didn’t need to treat him in the way that white Hollywood did when he was alive.”
She added, “He comes across as an arrogant a–hole who was full of hot air, and not someone who had to fight triple as hard as any of those people did to accomplish what was naturally given to so many others. It was really uncomfortable to sit in the theater and listen to people laugh at my father.
Here, he’s the one with all the puffery and he’s the one challenging Brad Pitt. Which is not how he was. What I’m interested in is raising the consciousness of who Bruce Lee was as a human being and how he lived his life. All of that was flushed down the toilet in this portrayal, and made my father into this arrogant punching bag.”

BABY DRIVER---Ansel Elgort said he has seen Edgar Wright's sequel script to the 2017 heist movie and said, “I think it’s gonna happen. I think there will be BABY DRIVER 2. It has a different title, actually. You’re gonna have to ask Edgar that, though.”

DOCTOR WHO---John Barrowman said he talked to Russell T. Davies about a theatrical movie featuring David Tennant, Billie Piper and Barrowman. Barrowman and Davies think the idea is "great", but fans think the chances are slim it would be made because Davies has earlier said he is not interested in returning to Doctor Who.

LORD OF THE FLIES---Luca Guadagnino (CALL ME BY YOUR NAME) is in talks to direct the Warner Bros. remake of the movie based on the novel.

BODY BROKERS---movie underway about a multibillion dollar "body brokers" scheme involving ex-drug addicts and dealers who recruit other addicts to seek treatment, then sell their bodies to the highest bidder. Melissa Leo and Frank Grillo star.

MADE FOR LOVE---HBO comedy series based on the novel about a woman who flees her sociopath tech billionaire husband, who implanted a chip in her her brain which allows him access to her thoughts, to be with her father and his sex doll in their remote desert hometown. Cristin Milioti stars.

SWEET GIRL---Jason Momoa stars in this Netflix movie about a man who protects his daughter and seeks revenge on those who killed his wife.

TRIVIA---actors who turned down the John McClane role in DIE HARD include Harrison Ford, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Sylvester Stallone, Robert De Niro, Mel Gibson, Richard Gere, Burt Reynolds, Don Johnson, Nick Nolte, Richard Dean Anderson and Clint Eastwood (who originally owned the movie rights to the novel DIE HARD was based on).
Bruce Willis was the last candidate for the job while he was starring in MOONLIGHTING and got it only after Cybill Shepherd got pregnant.

"...and not someone who had to fight triple as hard..."

I've never heard that before. "Three times as hard", but never "triple as hard."

Why would those actors turn down such an exciting, original (for the time) role? I wonder if they regret it (only because it was such a hit)? So many of these Hollywood casting stories seem like narrowly averted disasters.

Great questions! IMO, some were a little older than McClane's character should have been. Also, I don't see Eastwood, Schwarzenegger or Johnson convincingly portray the sentimental McClane. Due to his excellent work in Sharky's Machine, Reynolds might have been good, but again, he was considerably older than the film character.

In the novel that Die Hard is based on the main character's is in his 50s, i think. He certainly comes across as much older. The wife is also a daughter. the terrorists are less fun and more terroristy. I believe the initial script was much different to the one filmed. Maybe closer to the book. At least that's what i recall from the very good commentary by the director on the DVD. I think he even says in the commentary why some of actors turned down the role but i'm not a hundred per cent sure about that.

The book was a bit of a letdown, having seen the film first.

One of the rare cases of the film being better than the book.

IMHO.

I agree with you there. I thought the changes to the script and the general tone were all for the better. Though i was surprised to see how many of the main action set-pieces were taken directly from the book.

I looked at Die Hard 2 the other week (stupid but enjoyable, but very stupid), & Holly McClane on the plane says that the creepy TV journalist has a court order against her as she knocked out two of his teeth. Well, I checked the end of the first film, & she just gives him a little lady punch on the nose that doesn't even draw blood. You can't trust anyone these days.

RE: Shatner- This is the first time I’ve heard of health problems. Obviously no surprise at his age but sad to hear.

RE: Black Widow- There's multiple Black Widows? Whaaaaat? So now its like Charlie’s Angels?

RE: Love and Thunder- Funny how they keep saying Valkyrie is Bi but keep focusing on the lesbian angle.

RE: DW- All for Tennant’s return but bring back Pond instead!

That's the way it's always been in the comics...our Black Widow, Natasha Romanoff, was just the last in a long line of Widows when the program of female assassins was phased out after the Cold War wound down.

Piper and Tennant had an amazing rapport that I missed so much after she left that I didn't hang long after she did. But I'd see it no matter what.

When was this backstory written? Might be after I stopped reading comics.

Never liked Piper, in fact I can't watch series one and two because of her. I started with series three with Martha as the companion.

I think it was first introduced in the comics in the mid to late '90s. The comics aside, the MCU has already established that Romanoff was part of a group of girls training to be assassins. You see some flashbacks of Natasha's training in Avengers: Age of Ultron, and the show Agent Carter fleshes out the training center where Natasha trained to become Black Widow, known as the Red Room, albeit well before Natasha was born.

Yikes! Pond is one of my least favorite modern Doctor Who companions. Nothing against the actress, who I think is fantastic as Nebula in the MCU. I realize Doctor Who can get all timey wimey, but in the unlikely event Russell Davies returns to Doctor Who, I can't imagine he would pair a companion from a different era that he wasn't involved in with the main Doctor from his era.

Count me in for a Tenant/Piper/Barrowman reunion, although I am not holding my breath.

Thanks. I haven't read a comic since the mid 70's. Back then Black Widow was a "guest star" in Dare Devil. I would say comics didn't dive to deeply into a characters back story back then.

I love Amy Pond and series 5 is my hands down favorite.
