I was wondering what everyone thinks is his best score after this oscar winning score was released.

For me its

Indecent Proposal
My Life
Mercury Rising

Remember, this discussion is for Barry scores post 1990

Chaplin
My Life
The Specialist
Indecent Proposal

I think some of his finest work is from the 90s. (Tin hat at the ready!)

Ruby Cairo is absolutely gorgeous, and I can’t believe I didn’t even know it existed until a year ago.

Second one would probably be Across the Sea of Time.

The Specialist. One last stab at Bond-like excitement.

Chaplin, Indecent Proposal, Swept From The Sea (in that order).

Though I pretty much like them all!

Chaplin is a great score. Ruby Cairo works as a series of variations of a single theme. The Specialist has that slow, seductive theme, some choral work, great suspense cues, and some action music. Could have been an oscar nominee if it was for, you know, a good film.

The Beyondness of Things and Brighton Rock, which I saw only once, are right up there.

Tin hat at the ready!

He he.

I couldn't give a toss to those who say it's all samey. What it is, is big, romantic, melodic, beautiful and emotional gorgeousness!

For me it would be between Across The Sea Of Time, Swept From The Sea, or the actually rather different Playing By Heart.

I remember queuing up for JB's autograph after the 1998 Albert Hall concert trying to think of something to say, I was going to tell him I could listen to a whole album of music in a similar vein to his Love Theme music from The Scarlet Letter (and I could!), but I bottled out with a dull 'thank you very much.' What a turd!

Across The Sea Of Time...aka Barbra Would Not Leave Me Alone!

The Beyondness Of Things...aka Robert Redford didn’t like the French Horns in The Natural!

I like or love all of these scores, but "Across the Sea of Time" might be my favorite.

Gosh. I had ATSOT and thought it was a.bore.
It sounded like a computer programmer devised a generic " John Barry score" and this is the result.
Totally formulaic.

But, I'm a 1963 - 1987 BARRYfan.

I'd be inclined to name The Specialist, with its awesome "James Bond Meets Body Heat" style.

But there are so many superb Barry scores from that decade -- Scarlet Letter, Across The Sea of Time and the wonderful Playing By Heart (which Harvey Weinstein had thrown-out).

To be honest, I consider the 1990s, on balance, to be Barry's strongest decade after the 1960s.

MOONRAKER
THE LAST VALLEY
THEY MIGHT BE GIANTS....

Music not Muzak!

The 80s:
BODY HEAT
HAMMETT
THE.LIVING DAYLIGHTS....

How could I have forgotten about Across The Sea of Time! That is another favourite - probably after Chaplin.

Never heard Ruby Cairo - will have to hunt it out.

He.never did anything worthwhile after DWW.

Why do you have to post this and the other mundane posts in this thread. Nothing positive about these for a question offered by the OP.

I remember everyone getting fed up with YOR....
