Question for Tall Guy: Do you know this book?

Symphony for the City of the Dead: Dmitri Shostakovich and the Siege of Leningrad

Very curious if you have any thoughts about it.

Hi Sean

No, not that one, but a couple of years before that one came out Brian Moynahan’s book “Leningrad: Siege and Symphony” was published, and it seemed extravagant to have both. Moynahan’s book is absorbing and frightening and I can certainly recommend that particular one.

Although I’ve got yet another new biography in my Amazon basket - “Dmitry [sic] Shostakovich (Critical Lives)” by Pauline Fairclough.

I love the cover of the book in your post, by the way, it could be “Tin-Tin in Russia”.

Thanks, TG - yes I was really struck by the image and the title. Good to know about the one you mention as well. Hmmm... time to try some samples on my kindle.

The Anderson one looks a bit racier from the samples I’ve seen. No doubt it’ll end up in my DDS library at some stage.
