I played this today and I immediately thought of the music of John Barry, in it's effectiveness and simplicity.

It's like Dances With Wolves and Mad Max had a love child!

All Aboard the Junkie XL-press, on the High Road To China.

There might be some Barry in his music, particularly in his lush, slow themes - like "Many Mothers" in MAD MAX or a lot of tracks in BRIMSTONE. This is another exapmle.

Not as much as his MORTAL ENGINES theme is Ron Goodwin-ish.

This has none of Barry's inventiveness, elegance or gravitas. Yes their are similarities but only because this chap cut and paste them. And the overuse of percussion kills it.

I agree with this. And I'm not a fanatic of Barry.

Junkie XL is the new John Barry like Brian Tyler is the new Jerry Goldsmith or Michael Giacchino is the new John Williams.

That is to say, not at all.

This is very true. But IMHO, Junkie, Tyler and Giacchino are the best of the more recent composers. Max Richter too.

Man, to be the new John Barry you've got to have a style all of your own, be overflowing with creativity, and have the balls to push back at all the idiots you have to deal with.

Thread started out fine; then predictably turned to the classic FSM JXL bashing. Fortunately, it just ricochets off of me like water on a duck (or however the saying goes). My response to the naysayers:

razz
