If you try to join the club and choose The Black Hole...it tells you that it is not available on Blu-Ray and you will receive it on DVD. Do you have to be a member already to gain access to the Blu? This is very frustrating...

I find this all very confusing.

Yes, it is Club Exclusive.I am in the club Solium, so I was working on an order.
If you want one just tell me and i will hold onto one for you once I get my delivery.

So it is available...just not as a choice when you are joining? Is this correct?

I figure I'll fill in a few holes in my Marvel collection for $1 then order 20K and The Black Hole. Then I have 3 blu rays that I'll want in the next 2 years. I'm sure I can manage it.

well, that is interesting, I am not sure, since I am already a member. They might restrict it, now that I think about it, because they do not want people pulling a trick, joining for the free movies, getting Black Hole, and cancelling the membership. Just a guess.

But yes, I can still order it

Thank you for the offer. Please go ahead with your own order. I'm still looking into this. I got holes in my Disney library I need to pick up. If I can grab a bunch of stuff I'm missing I'll just join up.

Back on topic playing the score now. Fantastic release by Intrada!

I bought this back when it was released about eight years ago and so I'm not bothered that it's sold out. But why didn't Intrada feature this score in the 'Danger Zone'? A warning that it was about to sell out might have been good for people who were considering buying it.

All I can find on Amazon is the digital copy.

I don't know why but every once in a while a title disappears without ANY warning. Happened with "Jaws the Revenge".

Ending The Black Hole just before it's 40th anniversary...

If there was anything more that could be done with it, like improving the sound, I'd suspect a 40th anniversary edition was coming.

But, since I really can't think of anything that could be done to improve that title, it can't be anything like that.

Cheers

For anyone who loves this film/score and has considered picking up the new Blu-ray from the Disney Movie Club, be aware that the overture is omitted. From what I read on the Blu-ray.com forums, the overture IS physically on the disc, and there is an alternate playlist buried in the disc architecture that, if activated, will allow you to play the film with its overture intact. But there's no way to get there from the menu ... you need to mess around with the disc on a computer before you can view it this way. Your average fan who will just pop the disc into their Blu-ray player will sadly be obliged to view the film sans overture.

It's unclear if this was a disc authoring mistake, and viewing the film with or without the overture was supposed to be a selectable menu option, or if a creative decision was made to nix the overture AFTER the disc had been mostly authored, and thus the option was deliberately removed. Either way, this being a niche release, I'm skeptical Disney will put out a corrected disc or even acknowledge the problem. Caveat emptor.

It's a black hole lite bit of buffoonery - Captain Nemo in outta space! Probably my favorite musical sequence is right at the start, with the Palomino buzzing around the Cygnus. Then the lights turn on like a Xmas tree - whoa Black Betty, bam-a-lam!

Put out and visualized way before Interstellar and M87. The weird, faceless, voiceless and authoritarian-led community aboard the Cygnus looks more familiar with every passing day.

Thats very odd. Not surprised though. Disney has been extremely careless and sloppy with their IPs lately.

Haha! Very shrewd observation indeed. However, don't you dare be specific and allude to the wrong end of the spectrum lest you be banished to a black hole yourself.
