Way-hey Intrada - this is a great release its underrated coz the film was rated pretty naff - not by me though I liked Hackman's abysmal leadership towards Redford watching Redford graft in races for his victory-run was all the more fun.
Loved The Hustler love Downhill as much too - Hopkins may have used the Main theme abit recycling but its used too great effect especially in competitions & training runs, Thanks Intrada.
Ooh - I hope Onyabirri sees this! He's been aching for another Kenyon Hopkins release forever. This is mighty cool.
Ordinarily I would've glossed over this release, but a couple weeks ago I dug out my This Property is Condemned LP and really grew to appreciate it more than I ever did back when I originally picked it up. So maybe new Hopkins is just what my ears need. I'll definitely check out the samples and maybe go ahead and just order it.
Downhill Racer is an excellent film, from the era when Hollywood embraced arthouse sensibilities and combined them to great effect with star power and story structure. IMO it's the best sports movie, it charts how success and attention can corrode a person into being cold and unfeeling. Sadly this type of film can go unappreciated these days, by the kind of audience used to current on-the-nose Hollywood fare, just like the recent First Man, another successfully subtle and mature rendition of a genre-type - the true story biopic.
