In a bizarre twist, Kevin Smith is bringing back the original animated He-Man series. No, not a remake; as a Comoc Con panel showed:

I got a hot fresh cup of WHY? here!

Maybe not so much. Ive heard they took "He-Man" out of the title, its just "Masters of the Universe" and Teela going to be the main character in the series. roll eyes

Well, doesn't really matter. Same universe, existing character.

They've already rebooted She-Ra why not let He-Man be the star of his own series? Especially when he was the title character in Masters of the Universe.

Oh, I'm sure they will eventually, plus, he'll probably be featured throughout this series.

It's not like they made He-Man a woman or some bullshit. This is a totally acceptable route. Though if they keep finding one bullshit reason after another why he isn't there, I'll have to call bullshit.

No, not as egregious but seems like a bait and switch. I'm fine with spin-off series under the Masters of the Universe banner starring supporting characters. (Saying that as someone who never really watched the series.)

But its still taking the white male character (from his own show) and pushing him to the back.
All speculation at this point but seems to be the case based off of the story synopses.

It's a spin-off premise, like "The Lone Gunmen" -- same universe, characters from it, but not featuring the leads of he the show spun off of.

Unless you can point me to the creators saying they deliberately focused on the female character because of (fill in the blank dumb-bastard bullshit).

And why did they choose that route instead of rebooting He-Man?

I think you're reading too much into. I mean, why not create a spin-off?

He-Man will get his day in the sun again.

Well yes I'm super jaded but I think you're being a little naive here. They took "He-Man" out of Masters of the Universe and the new series will be about Teela. "The Masters are Female." razz

It was He-Man and the masters of the universe; separate people who can have their own series.

But yes, it's nearly impossible to give anybody the benefit of the doubt who resides in certain parts of California. You're jaded and didn't even get the lousy jaded T-shirt. ;-)

Without Ram Man and Fisto, this just won't be the same show.

Not sure I've been "waiting 35 years" (as the screen says) for that particular storyline; but I'd welcome another animated go at the MOTU series. Would surely be better than the turkey that was the feature film adaptation.

Was a big MOTU fan as a kid, and I still have Castle Greyskull, along with a number of action figures from the show stored somewhere in my parents' attic. I wonder if the collection would be worth anything today?

It had a very cute Courteney Cox and a fabulous score. One of Conti's best.

Yes, the two -- and only two -- redeeming features.

They are planning to pay Jim Phelps royalties for their use of his (animated) image, right?
