I have to think WAY back to 1978 when this film opened in San Francisco and enjoyed it with a full auditorium. It seems to have disappeared pretty much since then. It's due out on DVD in a couple of weeks and I'm eager to see it again. For the lovely Georges Delerue Score, the assured direction of Bertrand Blier, and a Gerard Depardieu who's so slim he's almost unrecognizable. The Film also won The OSCAR for Best Foreign Film. As a French Comedy, i found it quite entertaining.

I've been waiting for this one to appear on a U.S. DVD/Blu-ray for a long time. I think its last appearance was on a 1993 Criterion laserdisc, which I recently saw offered at $59.00

Looks like it was on dvd in 2002. The new release will be on dvd and blu-ray.

Hmmm. New copies of that old DVD are being offered for $53.00--what the market will (would) bear apparently. I knew there was some reason I hadn't already acquired it.

But that wouldn't have been the retail price in 2002. There are much cheaper used copies, but maybe those dropped in price when the new release was announced. The blu-ray is a high-def remaster which the new dvd should be sourced from, so they should look better than the old dvd.
