WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 21

AD ASTRA---IMAX trailer released for the Brad Pitt sci fi movie.

LINK: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BsCNKuB ... src=aw.ds&

THE MATRIX 4---Warner Bros. sequel underway with Keanu Reeves, Carrie-Anne Moss and director/co-writer Lana Wachowski returning.

SPIDER-MAN---negotiations between Walt Disney/Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures over the Spider-Man franchise have broken down. This ends the cross-studio Spider-Man franchise agreement that began in 2015. This means Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige will not be the producer of future Spider-Man movies, and Spider-Man movies will not be part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Walt Disney wanted a 50/50 financing deal with Kevin Feige as a consulting producer only. Sony wanted to keep the current arrangement with Marvel getting 5% of first dollar gross and all merchandise revenue and Feige as a lead producer.
Sony commented, “Much of today’s news about Spider-Man has mischaracterized recent discussions about Kevin Feige’s involvement in the franchise. We are disappointed, but respect Disney’s decision not to have him continue as a lead producer of our next live action Spider-Man film.
We hope this might change in the future, but understand that the many new responsibilities that Disney has given him – including all their newly added Marvel properties – do not allow time for him to work on IP they do not own. Kevin is terrific and we are grateful for his help and guidance and appreciate the path he has helped put us on, which we will continue.”

VIY 2: JOURNEY TO CHINA---the Russian sequel will feature the first battle between co-stars Arnold Schwarzenegger and Jackie Chan.

THE GIRL WHO LOVED TOM GORDON---movie underway based on the Stephen King novel. Chris Romero, former wife of George A. Romero, is a co-producer.

BLONDE---Adrien Brody is in talks to play Arthur Miller, and Bobby Carnavale is in talks to play Joe DiMaggio in the Marilyn Monroe biomovie based on the novel.

SUCCESSION---HBO renewed the series for Season 3.

BLOODLEAF---tv series underway based on the fantasy novel.

BILL GATES---untitled Netflix/Davis Guggenheim three-part documentary underway on the Microsoft co-founder.

TRIVIA---in the dystopian sci fi movie SOYLENT GREEN, New York police detective Frank Thorn (Charlton Heston) discovers the highly-coveted, nutrition wafer Soylent Green is really made of dead people which led to Heston's classic movie-ending line, "Soylent Green is people!"
The real-life Soylent is a line of nutritional meal products named after the wafer featured in SOYLENT GREEN that was invented in 2014 by software engineer Rob Rhinehart. Soylent meal products are "engineered nutrition...to offer a complete meal".

In SOYLENT GREEN, Charlton Heston plays a New York police detective who discovers that the highly-coveted, nutrition wafer Soylent Green is really made from dead people.

The real-life Soylent meal products are named after the SOYLENT GREEN wafers.

I like Spider-Man Homecoming a lot but haven't seen the second one. Disappointed he won't be in future MCU films. I've enjoyed Tom Holland's appearances. I'm assuming whatever Sony do will be dreck. Venom was utter tripe. But you never know.

Well, to look on the plus side, we were about to get overspidysaturated. Eighteen Spider-Man universe films were in development.

Unsurprisingly, the soylent stuff made various people sick in real life.

Spider-Man and Spider-Man 2, both produced by Sony, remain the two best Spider-Man films.

Sure, the ASM films weren't that great, especially the second, but they have their moments. OTOH, Homecoming was fairly dull. Plus, Spider-Man being Tony Stark's bitch is NOT Spider-Man. Peter develops his own tech.

The latest Spider-Man series is underwhelming. The characters have little to no personality and are rather dull. The actors don't have any chemistry together and it lacks emotional weight. Never saw the other reboot. The Sam Raimi series remains a classic even though the humor got annoying at times.

Still haven't seen SOYLENT GREEN. I guess the urge to do so was crushed many years ago when people were posting the final twist as a punchline in conversations, assuming everyone had seen it.

But I see it's on Netflix, so I'll find time. Hopefully, there's more to it than just the twist.

The first two Raimi Spider-Man films are both top shelf Spider-Man films. I enjoy the first ASM for what it is, and having a great Horner score doesn't hurt. ASM 2 has a couple of moments, but quickly went off the rails, and makes Spider-Man 3 look much better by comparison. Roberto Orci loved magic blood so much he shifted it from Star Trek Into Darkness to ASM 2, and it didn't work any better there, the pointless conspiracy theory around his parents was completely stupid, and don't get me started on the handling of the Rhino.

As for tech goes, Tom Holland Spider-Man created his web shooters, which is more tech than Tobey Maguire Spider-Man ever created. Also, Far From Home showed off another classic Spider-Man move: making the most of the tech available and using it to his advantage. He designed the features of his new Spider suit for the final showdown. Granted it was mostly Stark tech, but he put his own stamp on it by customizing the features in ways he needed. Admittedly, the Tom Holland Spider-Man stories is a departure from some classic tropes, but I have enjoyed all of Holland's appearances as Spider-Man.

That's just the fake twist. The real twist is that it's not people - that was just a publicity stunt - it's actually soy.
