I'm man enough to admit my mom has my dad and me hooked on THE YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS and THE BOLD AND THE BEAUTIFUL.

I saw them by a sort of osmosis.
My Mom was all about Another World and Corry Street when I was growing up.
That rubbed off on my late wife, who then stepped up to Y&R.
I can recall the old days when Y&R did some relatively (for the times) risk-taking story lines.

The only one I’ve watched (on dvd) was Dark Shadows I’m afraid. I didn’t get far but one day I plan to return to it. I don’t think I could get into a regular series lacking a gimmick, like Shadows’ supernatural elements.

When I used to visit my Grandmother (when she was still here), I would watch DAYS OF OUR LIVES with her. I got so I knew all the characters, etc. LOL! Anyway, I miss my Grandmother a lot, but not DAYS OF OUR LIVES so much!

My better half has watched The Young & The Restless all her life, so I'm pretty up to date on most of the storylines. big grin

I really like Christian LeBlanc, who plays Michael on Y&R. He's a fine actor, it'd be great to see him in something else. He's won a few Daytime Emmy awards, but it'd be great for him to get more exposure.

Wife watches the two UK biggies, Corrie and Eastenders. They're usually professional enough, with just the occasional dip. Personally it means I can eat my evening meal (in the sitting room on the lap when it's just me and the Mrs) without trying to watch telly at the same time. They're not something I need to concentrate on. Even the wife thinks of them as throwaway tv to wind down to after work, and they're certainly not something we'd set the timer for when we're not in!

I don't watch soaps these days, but I did as a kid. There was only one TV channel in Norway back in the 80s, and everyone in the family watched whatever was on. DYNASTY and FALCON CREST were particularly popular, and I remember watching this show with my mom almost every week.

I never watched any daytime soaps. And I never watched any of the official nighttime soaps ("Dallas," "Knots Landing," et al). But I did watch "Desperate Housewives" religiously. Does that count as a soap? And with continuing story threads on nearly every dramatic show these days, what doesn't count as a soap anymore?

Hate soaps over 30 years - EastEnders 1st started out ok - you had some shady characters for a soap who weren't typical gas-bags - by 1988 EE was done it still had an ok cast but a new mixture of actors joined it didn't work-out, i haven't watched it since. smile

I watch Emmerdale Farm to learn about the day to day workings of a modern day farm in rural England.
I hope to use such knowledge when our country runs out of food in the very near future and we can survive on our toiling of the land.
So far though, I've only learned how to lie, rape, murder, embezzle and sleep with all the women in our village.

Over the years I've threatened Mrs. Phelps with the idea of watching DALLAS and becoming obsessed with it. She has resisted thus far, but that hasn't stopped me from consistently bringing up the idea.

Jenkwombat: My grandmother watched "Days of Our Lives" for decades, but then "suddenly" switched to "Guiding Light." Can't remember why...I sure do miss her patented German-style recipe for roast beef, though. I have yet to replicate that vinegar-heavy meal, but it was simply the best. She overcooked everything, but that roast beef was absolute perfection.

Your numerous stints in prison may have interrupted your viewing pleasure. Now back in solitary you go, vermin.

Then you'll be King of the village while everyone else does the toiling. Who says TV isn't educational.
