What if these great scifi/action film composers were still alive and kicking:

James Horner
Jerry Goldsmith
Michael Kamen
Basil Poledouris
et al

Do you think they would have done any of the 22 marvel movies? Which ones do you think? And how would they have been?

I think Goldsmith would have composed the crap out of Doctor Strange, Black Panther and Ant-Man, for example. I would have loved to hear James Horner do Captain America (quoting Rocketeer once in a while) or Thor. It would have been amazing to hear Michael Kamen score Iron Man 3.

And what other choice than Basil Poledouris for the upcoming Black Widow? Aah, that would have been great.

I'm not too thrilled with Marvel movies (or any superhero movies) these days, so to be honest, I wish they'd steer clear of them, had they been alive. But I'm guessing the above composers would have to adher to the prevailing aesthetic of the films, which rarely call for the old-fashioned sound you seem to think they would have brought to the table.

I think the producers did just fine with the ones we got...

They did indeed, most of the time. What I didn't like was the lack of musical continuity, especially in the beginning (the Thor films being the worst offenders. Though, I was glad they picked up the theme from Thor 1 at the very end of Thor 3, but then again they did never use it in Infinity War or Endgame).

Given that they would have evolved during the 2000s and 2010s, I think they wouldn't have been that "old-fashioned". Goldsmith, for example, mastered the integration of pop and electronics into traditional scores pretty well, and, without health issues, would have been able to stay state-of-the-art.

I never said I wanted to hear their 80s or 90s sound in Marvel movies.

Well, regardless -- of those, I think Horner would be the "easiest fit". He showed he had some chops with THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN that felt both "contemporary" and Horner at the same time.

Composers today write simple motifs and sonic wallpaper, perhaps mandated by studio heads and directors. So I don't think it would've made a difference who scored them, Goldsmith or Horner would've produced the same lack luster forgettable results. Case in point compare Horners Spider-Man and The Rocketeer. I don't remember a thing about Spider-Man. The Rocketeer remains a classic and one of his best scores.
