MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 9

DOCTOR SLEEP---trailer released for the sequel to THE SHINING starring Ewan McGregor.

LINK: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BOzFZxB-8cw

MAJOR MATT MASON---Tom Hanks will star in the Paramount Pictures/Mattel Films movie based on the Mattel astronaut action figure. Akiva Goldsman will write the script based on a short story about Mason.

MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE 7---writer/director Christopher McQuarrie posted a photo confirming that Hayley Atwell (AGENT CARTER) will co-star with Tom Cruise, Rebecca Ferguson and Simon Pegg in the sequel.

STAR WARS: THE RISE OF SKYWALKER---a panel discussion which included Hayden Christensen and Ian McDiarmid at the FanX Salt Lake Comic Convention was cancelled less than two hours before it was scheduled to begin. This led to speculation that Christensen has a cameo in THE RISE OF SKYWALKER, and Walt Disney cancelled the panel to prevent any spoilers. FanX said, “said they [Walt Disney] weren’t going to allow them to do a panel, they couldn’t do Q&A they couldn’t do photo ops on the stage.”

BRILLIANCE---Will Smith will star in this movie based on the novel about a federal agent with super mental powers, a "brilliant", who pursues another brilliant who may cause a civil war. Akiva Goldsman is the writer.

MR. SMITH GOES TO WASHINGTON---John Oliver commented on Jimmy Stewart's Oscar-nominated performance in the 1939 Frank Capra movie, “He was a bad actor. They were all pretty bad back then, but he was especially bad.”

JAMES BOND---Pierce Brosnan thinks it is time for a female 007, "I think we've watched the guys do it for the last 40 years, get out of the way, guys, and put a woman up there. I think it would be exhilarating, it would be exciting. I don't think that's going to happen with the Broccolis. I don't think that is going to happen under their watch."

ONCE UPON A TIME IN HOLLYWOOD---Brad Piitt commented on if Quentin Tarantino is thinking about a miniseries based on the movie, “Yeah, he’s talked about it. It’s a pretty arousing idea.”
Also, Rebecca Gayheart, who played the wife of Cliff Booth (Brad Pitt) commented on if her character was killed by Booth, “Obviously we have an answer to that, but I don’t want to spoil it. I think the beauty of that question is that it’s a question that lingers and it colors how you feel about Cliff and the whole movie because is he the good guy that you think he is or isn’t he? And that was intentional.”
She added, "There were lots of other scenes that were shot that didn’t make it in the movie. I don’t know if something will be a part of a director’s cut. I tend to believe that the question will be answered at some point.”

THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION---Frank Darabont commented on the 25th anniversary of the movie, “I am absolutely certain that I could not make that movie today. I don’t think I could get GREEN MILE made today. I don’t think I could get THE MAJESTIC made today. I can’t even begin to imagine the studio meddling that would have happened with a movie like SHAWSHANK if not for Castle Rock (which produced it).
Castle Rock was – it was the magic kingdom. They were an extraordinary place founded by a filmmaker who understood the creative autonomy that a filmmaker needs to do their best work. It was a tremendously respectful, filmmaker-friendly place. I don’t know if there’s room in our business today for a company like Castle Rock, which is a darn shame.”
Darabont said among recent movies, he did like DOCTOR STRANGE, “That was done very, very well, and I really enjoyed it. That’s one of those you want to get the 4K Blu-ray when it comes out.”

THE BATMAN---Christian Bale commented on Robert Pattinson playing Batman, “Good choice. He’s interesting. I’m sure he’ll come up with something really interesting.” Bale offered his advice to Pattinson, “Oh, the same as for Ben [Affleck], just be able to pee by yourself. You don’t feel much like a superhero when you can’t take a piss by yourself.”

MARVEL'S HAWKEYE---Jonathan Igla (MAD MEN) will be the writer/executive producer of the Disney+ tv series.

THE SERPENT---Jenna Coleman will play Marie-Andree Leclerc, accomplice of serial killer Charles Sobrhaj, who terrorized 1970s India, in the BBC/Netflix miniseries.

JULIA CHILD---Joan Cusack and David Hyde Pierce are in talks to star in the HBO biomovie about the career of the famous tv chef.

TRIVIA---more James Bond movie trivia.
Andre Maranne is best known for playing Sgt. Francois Chevalier in six Pink Panther movies. Maranne played Bond Villain SPECTRE's Number 10 in THUNDERBALL which starred Sean Connery and Claudine Auger.

I had the Matt Mason figures. And a moontractor. And a transport bubble! I think my mate had a space station.
It all looked great in the TV adverts. But rather boring after the moontractor had used up 2 batteries just getting to the end of the bed!
Obviously, gagging for a movie to be made (not!)!! smile

Now I remember one of the many reasons I hated the "Brosnan years" of 007; good Lord that guy was a dope!

Philistine. If he said he wasn't fond of just Stewart's performance in Mr. Smith, I wouldn't have minded, but to say he was a bad actor in general just rubs me the wrong way.

Quote of the year! (2019) big grin

Thanks, Dragon!

Dear Gary Larson,
Please, please come out of retirement long enough to create a Far Side comic to go with this quote.

If you want to say Jimmy Stewart tended to play Jimmy Stewart, then fine, if you dislike that (?!?...) then fine. But he was damn great at that. That character was modern noble. 20th century ethical.

Personally I have always loved that character. And even objectionably, Mr. Stewart *was* an excellent actor. Sorry comedian-with-amusing-accent, but like B. Maher on Stan Lee etc., you are just wrong on this one.

I dig John Oliver.
But if his only real acting claim to fame is the masterful thespian heights he reached as the new Zazu, then hey, glass houses.

Jimmy Stewart was the first great ' method' actor and the finest of his generation.

Nuff said!

He's actually pretty funny, but very wrong in this case. He was an actor in Community. He presents a pretty funny show called This Week Tonight or something like that. He hates Sepp Blatter, so he's not all bad.

He's not an actor, he's a movie star.

Re: Star Wars- So by making a big deal out of nothing Disney inadvertently let everyone know he's returning for the next film. Typical boneheads.
