According to FilmScoreRundowns.net (who looks at sheet music at studios):

"Television Theme"
("Located at the start of Chapter 13 on the dvd.")

"Original Main Title (Revised) 67/68"
("It runs 25 bars and is marked ' transposed.' "; he then goes on to describe the orchestrations as read off the sheet music)

"TV Theme"
("This Courage-adapted cue is located at the start of Chapter 16 on the dvd.")

And there is another one that is ambiguous about who did it.

So that looks like Jerry DIDN'T do the end titles. I mean, it's obviously his music, but that's such an iconic arrangement.

I always thought the main titles version of the theme sounded more fluid and less staccato than the end though.

Also, I love the entire countdown speech when Spock arms his thruster pack. It's one more thing that makes the world feel real.

To me, the opposite is true for one simple reason. When you're using something called an 'Emergency Evacuation Thruster Pack', I don't think it's a good idea to listen to 22 seconds worth of instructions on top of 15 seconds that it's going to take the pack to finally ignite.

True but I would claim suspension of disbelief, it sure built up the drama!

I can just see myself trying to evacuate the ship, with a jetpack counting down from 15 seconds while the warp core breach counts down from 14. You know how they used to sell you an 8-pack of hotdogs and 6-pack of hotdog buns? It's along those lines. smile

Heehee good one! To be honest the countdown never bothered me. I just thought Spock programed in a delayed start time so he could begin his audio log. I always assumed the user could override a countdown in case of an emergency.

Why they even called it that is weird. It's just a jet pack....

Nerds.

Yeah, That Neil Guy one of the things I did on the day of the 40th anniversary was to listen to the Melodic Treks episode There is No Comparison featuring YOU. And I'M the nerd? wink

Great podcast. A perfect inclusion on that day. I especially enjoyed the various people chiming in about their favorite parts. (Do people really think Horner's Klingon theme sounds that much like Goldsmith's?)

BTW the other thing I did that day was listen to the original CD / LP order. There is maybe one track that is truly essential that is missing from that album. (The Force Field.) There is a lot of music from the expansions that I am dearly glad that I have (like... all of it). But that original LP is a wonder.

I always thought it sounded like it was pretty much cribbed wholesale from ALIENS.

Oh, wait - getting my chronology mixed up here..... ;-)
