And since Halloween is approaching, here is the second animated special (which went straight to VHS; you can buy it on DVD, by the way):

It's sorely needed.

I wonder how he'll survive since the internet and "social" media have killed the foundations it needs to thrive - newspapers and reality.

I wonder how comedy will survive in the current social climate?

From the few interviews I've seen of him, I doubt that Larson would feel pressured by the PC, SJW types. However, some venues might be reluctant to publish his cartoons. Especially since "edgy" comedy pretty much only is allowed for some select folks.

Critics aren't my concerns. Newspapers were where he ran his comics, and pre-internet society had a communal history which provided a context for his humor. Unless he's only going to appeal to 40+ year olds, he'll have to change his jokes.

As long as human nature stays ridiculous he'll have plenty to joke about.
That should be roughly forever.

But you're saying that, I assume, as someone who was around in his heyday. I'm not talking about his pre-existing fans, although some of them have probably changed with the times and might not have the attention span for his one-panel jokes.Charlie Chaplin stopped making his style of comedy films, Vaudeville died out, etc. Technology, taste, society, etc changes.

In other words, you can't go home again. wink

Prediction: Calvin and Hobbes will be back too.

Why? Will & Grace, and Murphy Brown came back too.

The website says the new FAR SIDE will be online, not in newspapers, probably like Berkeley Breathed's revived BLOOM COUNTY.

Well the complete site re-design is live and I don't see any new comics, accept for a couple doodles of himself and sketchbooks.

I guess it was wishful thinking on everybody's part. :-(

Caption reads...
"Unbeknownst to most theologians...there was a fourth wiseman ...who was turned away for bringing a fruitcake.
