JOKER---Joaquin Phoenix commented on a possible sequel with director Todd Phillips, “You know, I wouldn’t have thought about this as my dream role. But now, honestly, I can’t stop thinking about it. I talked to Todd a lot about what else we might be able to do, in general, just to work together, but also specifically, if there’s something else we can do with Joker that might be interesting. So, it ended up being a dream role. It’s nothing that I really wanted to do prior to working on this movie.”

What that means, I have no idea. You know, I’m not in charge of the future of Marvel, but it is something that we’re really passionate about and we love and I feel like if enough people out in the world talk about how much they want it, maybe it’ll happen.”

Forty years of Bruce and those sticky syrup shirts... He wants to work again, but he just doesn’t want to play that role right now."

THE PRESIDENT'S PLANE IS MISSING---David Oyelowo will star in the Showtime pilot based on the novel by Bil Clinton and James Patterson.

Dear lord, the rampant epic stupidity. No more Disney movies for me!

Dennis Waterman was the best for Ash? And it's Ashe not Ash? And Tommy Lee Jones was the best but Sallas went to Skerrit who isn't want it?

This is as interesting as all the alternates The Thing was looking at casting when it went into production.

That Disney algorithm sounds insane. How would it even work?

The Disney Algorithm?
Here's how it'll work.
In trying to please everyone, they'll end up pleasing no one.

It's not meant to please everyone, it's meant to please the people who circle jerk each other over how progressive they are and think the people will still come and see their stuff anyway because they are Disney and have Borg'ed so many other things.

The definition of BIAS is: "prejudice in favor of or against one thing, person, or group compared with another, usually in a way considered to be unfair."

Not sure I can see the harm in looking for bias.

Well, it can certainly be the deceptively benign-looking first step that eventually leads to some really horrible things, that's for darn sure.

Ah ha! I always thought there was something Tracy Walterish about Stanton in ALIEN. wink

And where is Jon Finch on this list of candidates? Wasn't he originally cast in either the Hurt or Holm role?

I thought Walter would be good as Brett when i saw his name there.

Yes Finch was filming as Kane (John Hurt) when he was taken sick.

Interesting bits about it here from the Alien blu supplements:

I just don't know how it can work or can hope to work or what the correct representation of every group of people would be or how that would be decided. There's nothing stopping Disney right now from reading scripts and deciding about them without use of computer programs. It seems like an announcement to make them look progressive but i guess time will tell to see what their output looks like and how that changes anything for them. But if it extended beyond Disney in the future, i think i would be worried.

Non-Disney films like Jaws, The Thing, Sorcerer, The Exorcist, the Godfather, Patton, Saving Private Ryan, Deathtrap, etc etc (think of 99% of films) as scripts would definitely come out as prejudiced for various reason and undergo rewrites "to correct them"? I don't know what the computer program is like, but i imagine its probably searching certain just certain words or terms?

Would biographical scripts get revised to fit a template, if your life doesn't have different sets of people in it? (although they're almost entirely made up these days anyway). How would historical stories work? Scott of the Antarctic? Waterloo?

"We like your script, but our computer program says its prejudicial against these 3 groups of people." I don't like the idea that it's basically accusing a writer of prejudices because it hasn't hit the targets of an unknown and arbitrary quota that a story should now have to fill. Not a good future. It seems like a tool that will easily used to restrict creativity and storytelling, and could also be used to make entirely innocent people look like bigots.

They should just pay readers more, rush them less and make better decisions.

*Native Americans still won't get any representation*

Wow, i panicked there. Let's revisit this in ten years and forget about it till then. I'm sure it was sumthin' aboot nuthin'

The Universe itself is biased.

Get over it.

It's not stupidity. It's religious cult-style insanity.

Actually, the universe is built on balance. Bias is a mental state. It sounds like you benefit from it based on your nonchalant acceptance of it and garbage attitude about trying to deal with the issue.

At the end of the day, I can't see an algorithm doing a damn thing that intelligent people can't. It's not a fuel formula we're talking about, they're stories.

Balance, huh? The Universe doesn't care about you in any shape, manner, or form. If an asteroid hits, it won't spare the Regressives. Neither will cancer or Ebola or the Flu...

The universe has a balance that has been struck over time, but as a whole it is not balanced and as it is we don't know a whole hell of a lot about it.

And there's bias, there's perceived bias, then there is made up bias that people feed into a machine to detect said made up bias.

Oh no, he can't, because most keyboards (that I've seen) are black-color coated, so obviously he'd have to be a racist to dare press them. ;-)

I seriously hope some other studio steps up, replaced Disney, then Disney gets gobbled up by them.
