Thanks for the clip. I had never heard Newman's score before. It is interesting as stand-alone music, but I agree with others that in the film it seems too chaotic. The visuals already have the chaos covered, and the the music starts sounding like an over-the-top parody. It's also just fatiguing, going to 100% almost instantly and never really backing down for long. The little fanfares and extra excitement for the fighter jet shots are too much.

This Motorcade cue is basically Toy Story. Impossible to take this seriously. Would be good for a Police Academy movie, though.

Wait, I thought we all agreed Goldsmiths score fell into parody territory. So how is that different from Newmans' take? Exactly. I'm amazed at folks dumping on Newman's score here, even as one of the biggest Goldsmith fans on the board. After Ford's dramatic America: World Police speech, Newman treats his scoring approach just like Basil Poledouris did on Starship Troopers (and everyone here loves that score!) I know the motorcade sequence is probably what got his score tossed, but it seems entirely appropriate to me. Yavar

Could it all be down to personal sensibilities? Goldsmith always seemed to come across as a serious, no-nonsense guy and was older and more old school. Newman always seems to be takin the piss and has a pithy, sardonic mocking outlook. Maybe he just couldn't bring himself to be solemn/serious about such cartoon like characters and situations. Whereas Goldsmith had already tackled The Swarm Randy Newman is only 14 years Jerry's junior. And again I thought people have long suggested that Jerry himself was "takin the piss" himself with his over-the-top Air Force One main theme? Jerry certainly had a sense of humor and in some interviews has come across as somewhat sardonic. I think this has translated in some of his music as well, particularly in some of his scores for Joe Dante such as Gremlins. Yavar

New clip. This is a combination of cues/scenes. "The Escape Pod" and "Empty Rooms" https://vimeo.com/367407962 Wildly Toy Story-esque here, but the fight music onward was solid.

Stunning work, Mutant! Enjoyed it immensely. Alas, I can see/hear why this score was tossed. It doesn't work in film context at all and is totally inappropriate. Goldsmith remains unmatched, without a question.

The music at the start of the clip is pretty good and Kamen-esque. The fight music was also good. Melanie's Death was too much, though.
