In addition to Morricone set (vol 1 only) I bought also John Williams and Lalo Schifrin. I think the best purchase was Schifrin because I only had Dirty Harry soundtracks from him before.
I looked for the Schifrin box as well, but didn't find a deal as good as I got for the Morricone sets. Likewise the John Williams box, but that is of lesser importance, as I have by far the majority of what's on there.
Anyone else having difficulty removing the discs from the box set?
I agree this is a superb collection even it does contain only a handful of rarities and inedits for we die hard Morricone collectors. The book format presentation is gorgeous BUT the biggest drawback which really mars it for me is the method used for storing the CDs in their folders. Whoever thought it was a good idea to enclose in them in slots which are so tight it is well nigh impossible to extract them without using great force and invariably leaving a dirty great fingerprint on the CD playing surface! To reinsert them is almost as difficult. May have to consider storing them externally.
The problem is real, but I could solve it "cheaply" with this tipp from David Hurwitz, as much classical music comes in just the same type of boxes.
The answer is at 22:40, the "Fake Eyelash Placement Device". I tried this out and got a cheap one at a local drug store and I have to say it works like magic. Have one in your CD shelf, doesn't cost a lot and extracts those discs smoothly and safely, without doing any harm.
I re-read this thread now that it was bumped, and I'm gobsmacked by this super niche niche of deconstructing the tiniest details of individual tracks, and various releases and all the nuts and bolts and ins and outs. Goes completely over my head.
On paper, this might have been a release for me. I mean, I have about 120 Morricone titles now, many represented on this disc. But most of them are digital files, my physical collection is so skimpy, I'm hesitant to even say the number. So in THAT respect, this collection would have filled some gaps.
However, I think it's much cooler to own the discs individually, and to curate which version you want (obviously OSTs for me all the way). Something to do before I die, should I suddenly get rich and the world situation change.
