I just saw Z for Zachariah (2015), and while the interior film score is pretty subdued, the end titles are wonderful. Heather McIntosh apparently hasn't hit it super-big yet, fame-wise, but I enjoyed what she did for the movie. Somber yet beautiful.

I watched this film over the weekend.
Understated, low-key but quite interesting.
A 'magic valley' avoids any issues with a vaguely explained earth disaster/catastrophe/wipe-out scenario and 1, then 2, then 3 survivors plot and plan their next steps for future humanity survival.
I liked the 'earthy score', also low-key but effective in places, with some actual melody at times.
Not unlike some of the better stuff from Nick Cave & Warren Ellis.
My first exposure to this composer, but a pleasant change from the standard phoned-in/droned-in.

I had no idea this film score had been released on CD by Varese Sarabande until I saw a listing for it in a Sales email from SAE last week.
Having enjoyed the score within the film, I was about to build an order, with it in, until I spied an even cheaper copy on eBay for £8.
It inhabits that lo-fi/acoustic sound world I really dig anyway and hearing it on CD, it's really good.
Rustic, earthy, melancholy music that ably supports the gritty/tragic drama that unfolds onscreen, with a brooding ominosity in the strings, battling the occasional shafts of light from the harp, piano, organ and lighter strings.
Quite Nyman-esque at times, but with a fuller (maybe LAST OF THE MOHICANS*) flavour overall.
An unexpected pleasure.
Any other fans?

*certainly Track 25.

No one?

Zap, did you buy the CD after viewing the film?

I own it...but I can't honestly say I remember it. I got it before I saw the movie, and I hated the movie, so I haven't gone back to revisit it. Maybe I should...
