Happy Birthday to the Maestro, God bless him with health and vigour!

Absolutely.

We went out with friends last night for a curry, and I thought I was in a spice-induced hallucination when a very familiar tune was played in the background in a very unfamiliar presentation. It was Regan’s Theme but with Hindi-sounding lyrics. And today we watched The Sopranos (series 4, ep 9), which played out to Apollo 440’s version of Man With a Harmonica.

I can’t believe that there’s another primarily film composer who’s had anything like the same global influence.

The WORLD loves Ennio Morricone!

Edited to Regan from Tegan...

I remember sharing his 78th birthday with him!!
Front row RAH.
Happy 91st birthday ennio.

"today we watched The Sopranos (series 4, ep 9), which played out to Apollo 440’s version of Man With a Harmonica." - yeah i remember that, camera is on tony's back as he comes down dark corridor and emerges outside into the light. I slipped that version into our tennis clubhouse's sonos Chillout playlist. Nobodys noticed yet. wink

Let's hope the Maestro had a nice celebration!

Henry, regarding Tornatore, this is really weird. Indeed, several articles from January 2017 mentioned his new movie GEEK starring the Japanese actress Yu Aoi (the reminder of the cast being by then unknown), even showed a couple of pictures of the set and since that time, this movie which was supposed to be released in the course of 2017 has totally vanished! No news whatsoever are to be found! The ImdB page of Yu Aoi doesn't even list it! What happened to it is true a mystery. We know that Tornatore launched in the meantime the documentary dedicated to Ennio, which might be the main reason for postponing GEEK but still, I wonder what the schedule is for both movies.

He was 72 when I saw him, but still energetic. I'm sure I remember him leaping onto the stage.. Wonderful evening. Happy birthday indeed.

Dear Maestro Morricone, what you have achieved is beyond amazing. We are truly grateful for being able to share all of this and have it accompany our lives. Thank you!

Did anyone buy Maurizio Baroni's recent book MorrICONe? I'm actually just hesitating between the Italian version or the English translation entitled Discovery.

No doubt it would be a great way to celebrate the Maestro's birthday.

I’ve ordered the English edition from Amazon UK this week, but delivery date could be as late as January next year!

It´s indeed very strange with the delay of the film Geek. Why The Canterville Ghost hasn't been finished yet is also a mystery. Both projects were announced years ago and for TCG Morricone has confirmed that he has done the music.

I didn't even know such a book existed! By the way: will there ever be an English translation of Tornatore's book on the Maestro? It was published a year ago (in Italian) and I really would like to read it. Or should I just start learning the language?...

Regarding THE CANTERVILLE GHOST it is animated so the dialogue and score is done first and it might take as long as 2-3 years to do the animation. This looks like it is old school so I assume it will be a while.

Just seen a new advert for a men’s fragrance from Dolce & Gabbana that uses an updated version of The Ecstasy of Gold as its soundtrack. Not that anyone in their right mind would want to, but you can’t escape him!
