New score by Desplat.
Press release:

One track on YouTube.

Previous adaptations of the Louisa May Alcott novel were scored by Max Steiner (1933, theme reused in 1949 by Adolph Deutsch), Elmer Bernstein (1978, TV miniseries) and Thomas Newman (1994, lovely music, one of Newman's best).

This is one of my most anticipated scores of the year, it should fit him like a glove. And judging from that clip it seems he nailed it.

Ok while Desplat usually leave me somewhat cold, he can really nail it now and again.....this one looks like he might have nailed if the rest of the score is like this.

Yeah...I think there is literally one score by Desplat I actually enjoy (Imitation Game)...so I was kinda disappointed he was scoring this (especially considering Newman's Little Women is one of my favorite scores ever).

Still...I'm reserving judgement...he could surprise me with something wonderful and heartfelt...this sounds like there is a chance.

Yeah, exactly (although we need more than one track).
And let me say it: I am sure I can love Desplat score while still having Thomas Newman's version stay at the pantheon of my favorite/greatest films scores.

This is a different movie. How good Newman's score is (and it's my absolute favorite of his) is irrelevant.

Sounds good! I'm sure a theme will jump out at me once I see the movie, but everything else is grand.

There's a German CD which is up at the various European Amazons, it's conceivable there might not be a US CD.

It says he recorded the score in New York City. A chamber orchestra. Interesting.

Tinkle tinkle tinkle accompanied by sawing strings. Very nice. Unremarkable, but nice.

I also listened to the other track they've released. If I had no idea what it was from, I might've guessed a Teletubbies movie, which would definitely be scored by Desplat if Zimmer wasn't available.

All very pleasant. Pleasant and tinkly.

That Plumfield track is very good. The other one is just OK for me. Looking forward to the rest of the score. I haven't bought a Desplat score for a while now.

J'Accuse (aka An Officer and a Spy) is the superior Desplat this year. No precious tinkle-tinkle.

But it won't get much attention, and for one of two reasons:

1. it accompanies a French language film.
2. the film is directed by Roman Polanski.

Also:

3. the film is not being released in the US at all, it seems, just like Polanski's last film

I got the CD last week from Amazon France. I'm torn between trying to either waiting until I can somehow see the film or just listening to it.

...and, hence, no American distributor.

I know a lot of people find Desplat’s costume drama scores tiresome but I don’t care.

Inject this shit into my veins.

This is Desplat’s strongest score since The Light Between Oceans. Absolutely sparkles with life and is sublimely beautiful.

Found it on iTunes and You Tube. That opening track is impressive. A little kinship with Bernard Herrmann there.

Another 2019 Desplat score with some nice moments: The Adults in the Room.
