The remix team known as Skeewiff have funkified some Amphonic and KPM library tracks (some work really well, some not so), but all the remixes have been given new titles, so I was wondering if anyone can point me to a place that would identify the original track titles.

These are the two albums in question:

https://www.discogs.com/Skeewiff-Vintage-Remix-Boutique/release/3972074

Many thanks!

Bumping this request just in case some of you production music library enthusiasts out there can help me!

Those links aren't much good really, especially if the original pieces have been retitled. You'd have more success if people could actually listen to samples of the remixes and then I'm sure they'd be identified a lot more successfully.

Just listened to Supermarket Hustle, which is on YouTube (no idea if the others are).

I know there is a tradition in modern artists lifting riffs from library music and remixing it to make something new and in my opinion most of the re-do's are utter shit, excepting maybe a lot of Shawn Lee's stuff, which is usually respectful to the originals.

When I heard Supermarket Hustle, I just thought "Ugh!"

Very good point, Simon. Here are the albums on YT:

I'm also with you regarding the remixing. Although some of them work as novelties, I'd much prefer to hear the originals which is why I'm keen to get the original titles.

The above link takes you to the kpm catalogue. The YouTube links mention, in most cases, the original composer, so I looked up the works of Les Reed, Keith Mansfield, Alan Hawkshaw, Syd Dale and Alessandro Rizzo. There are links to all their pieces used by kpm, but it would take about a year to listen to them all and link them to the Skeewiff mixes. Interestingly, the Alessandro Rizzo material seems only to mention the Skeewiff releases, but mention is made of the origins of some of the tracks. One is actually co-composed (they usually are, sometimes a group of four names are listed) by Hawkshaw, and was, it says, used as the theme for "The Dave Allen Show".

I hope that leads you somewhere, roadshowfan. Let us know when you've tied everything up, but be quick. I'm not going to be around forever.

Some pointers from the KPM tracks:

Wild Waters is Brass in Action (Keith Mansfield)
Brass and Bongos is The Hell Raisers (Syd Dale)
Skydive is Men on The Move (Mansfield)
Crazy Crazy seems to be Brass in Action again (eh?)
Bossa del Flamingo is Walk and Talk (Syd Dale)
Dave is Not Here is Blarney's Stoned (aka the theme to the BBC TV series Dave Allen At Large) by 'The Hawk' (aka Alan Hawkshaw)

Some of the original KPM tracks may have had other titles as well in their time. I only listened very briefly to the openings. The ones credited to solely to Rizzo and Ireland didn't ring any bells though there may be little bits of original library music in them ('Dave Is Not Here' certainly does, which begs the question why Hawkshaw isn't given a credit). I've never heard of Rizzo or Ireland before, incidentally.

I'm not really a fan of the Amphonic library (KPM and Bruton were much better IMO) so nothing there immediately jumped out at me. There's probably a few ways of skipping the ads on YouTube these days which were quite intrusive looking at these playlists, hence another reason why I didn't spend too long on this.

Graham's right, the web link he gave would be invaluable to identify tracks and a lot of KPM material is on various digital platforms such as iTunes and 7digital (as well as commerically available compilation CDs).

Wow, thank you so much for that fantastically helpful hint, Mr. purplemonkeydishwasher!

Simon, sorry you had to endure endless ads while trying to help me. I heartily recommend using AdBlock Plus as it filters out all those irritations and videos play immediately.

Ah ha. I used to have it and removed it when I did a clean install of my PC. I shall re-install it - thanks for the recommendation/reminder smile
