I think this deserves its own thread

Music Composed and Conducted by John Williams
4-CD BOX SET
Limited Edition of 5000 Units
$74.98

La-La Land Records, Twentieth Century Fox, Fox Music, Warner Bros. Studios, Warner Music, Universal Studios, Universal Music Group and Geffen Records proudly present the DISASTER MOVIE SOUNDTRACK COLLECTION – MUSIC BY JOHN WILLIAMS, a thrilling, limited edition four disc box set containing the remastered and expanded original motion picture scores to the exciting feature films THE POSEIDON ADVENTURE (1972) and THE TOWERING INFERNO (1974), both produced by Irwin Allen, and EARTHQUAKE (1974), produced by Mark Robson and Filmakers Group, and all composed and conducted by Academy Award-Winning composer John Williams (JAWS, STAR WARS, RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK).

Prior to the deep-water predator threat of JAWS and the outer space spectacle of STAR WARS in 1977, maestro John Williams lent his sizable talents to that decade’s first half by composing breathtaking scores to the ’70s’ most prominent and epic, star-studded, force-of-nature disaster spectacles, notably THE POSEIDON ADVENTURE, THE TOWERING INFERNO and EARTHQUAKE. This spellbinding collection showcases Williams’ musical mastery in deluxe fashion, featuring improved sound over previously released editions, and in the case of THE TOWERING INFERNO and EARTHQUAKE, expanded with previously unreleased material. Produced, restored, mixed and mastered by Mike Matessino, this limited edition set is comprised of four discs, spread across three separate jewel cases (one jewel for each score) - all housed in an attractive slipcase. The exclusive, in-depth liner notes are by writers Jeff Bond (POSEIDON, INFERNO) and Jon Burlingame (EARTHQUAKE) and the thrilling art direction is by Jim Titus.

THE POSEIDON ADVENTURE and THE TOWERING INFERNO scores are presented in association with the Irwin Allen estate. POSEIDON has been restored and meticulously remastered from original vault materials for improved sound over previous releases, and features a reordered program of the movie’s source music and songs, now including the hit Maureen McGovern single version of “The Morning After.” The 2-CD TOWERING INFERNO presentation is a major restoration project, sourced from 20th Century Fox, Warner Bros. WEA and Allen estate materials, and is the most comprehensive and best-sounding representation of this amazing score to date. DISC 1 showcases the original score presentation, while DISC 2 features alternates, source music, and the first official CD release of the 1974 soundtrack album master.

The EARTHQUAKE score, sourced from Universal Music Group and Universal Pictures elements, features a fully remixed and remastered presentation of the 1974 soundtrack album recording, and – for the first time – the world premiere of the original film score recording.

This composer-approved collection is limited to 5000 units and is a must-have for all film music enthusiasts. These are legendary Williams scores, preserved and presented in a most worthy fashion.

a bit expensive (specially overseas) but terrific packaging and nice to finally get album presentation for TOWERING and the improved sound (I'm ok with previous releases for the other 2 scores)

Yeah, a bit expensive (esp. if you're in the UK), but sod it, I'm buying it (I haven't bought anything else this year). A fantastic release. Thank you La-La.

When’s the release date for this set?

It goes up for order Tuesday, along with the other Black Friday titles.

It's great for those who do not already own these, and/or prefer expansions.

Of course, the monetary value of my FSM CD of TOWERING INFERNO -- probably the most valuable single CD in my collection up to this point -- just plummeted drastically!

No offense Thor, but this set isn’t really about expanding these titles.

1. Poseidon was already released complete — twice! This is supposed to be a significant Mattesino sonic improvement.
2. Towering Inferno was already released virtually complete. But it was also perhaps most in need of a sound upgrade, with the FSM including damaged tracks and such which seems to have been rectified with new tech.
3. Earthquake is two things: a remastered reissue of the long OOP (and frankly terrible sounding) original album recording (with the bonus of providing a couple of tracks sans added SFX!) ...AND a PREMIERE of the film recording of the score, which I’d have thought you as a Williams completist would have appreciated more...and it’s still under 40 min long total so though premiered in complete form I trust you don’t consider it too lengthy of a program. wink

I sold off my sealed copy of Poseidon Adventure a few years ago. So glad I did!

Great set, ordered! Is this the only black Friday release? It's fine if it is, I was just wondering if I missed something?smile

Go to the Black Friday thread and scroll upward. You'll see all the titles.

Wonderful to have the sound upgrades and additional tracks for these titles.

Sorry, Thor, but game, set and match to Yavar.

I’m sorry but how does Yavar know what this set really is about? Was he involved in its production?

He thoroughly read the release details and compared with existing versions of the three scores. smile

Well I'm thinking that The Towering Inferno is a bit like a premier release. It was released 19 years ago & was a very quick sell-out, & people (like me) have been asking for a re-release ever since, In fact I'd given up.

Sorry, Thor, but game, set and match to Yavar.

Didn't realize it was a competition! This set has no value to me, but I'm glad it has for others. On the plus side, this stuff is very healthy for my wallet!

Exactly he always claims to know everything when he does not work for the record labels. What's even worse is if you try and explain it to him he just doesn't get it.

I have to say I kinda suspected these would be released together - it just makes sense. The artwork and design these are absolutely stunning. It's been an amazing year for John Williams fans thanks to LLL. The cost is not even close to what you'd pay for a OOP Towering Inferno or Poseidon CD so I think this will do very well indeed. smile

Wow, you really have some serious issues Captain Cold.

Literally everything I wrote comes from *La-La Land’s own announcement* (and looking at the previous CD releases). I never claimed to be an expert. I just paid attention to the publicly released details. I don’t know (and haven’t claimed to know) anything beyond that!

Good grief.
