According to The New York Times, Actor Hugh Grant, ('Love, Actually', 'Notting Hill'), has been knocking on doors in the Finchley section of London advocating for political reasons he feels strongly about. I can easily imagine American actors and actresses doing this, but for some reason I find it more 'unimaginable' for a famous British Actor or Actress, I cannot say exactly why, but I do. The fact that it's the incredibly charming Hugh Grant makes it seem nearly improbable. Imagine answering the door and having a discussion with the man? England's changing. Rapidly.

On the other hand it could be the easiest way for a political party not to get the door shut in their face. "Ooh, you're him aren't ya? Hey Doreen, come and look who's at the door"! Whether or not they'd get the political points across is another matter of course. Maybe if they agree to a selfie and an autograph......

Oscar winner Glenda Jackson actually became a Member of Parliament. Thanks, Jehannum. I was aware of this, though I've never seen a photo or news clip of her in Parliament. Also, I can envision some wanker slamming the door in poor Hugh's face. I cannot do the same for Glenda Jackson. She's always been an extraordinarily strong and opinionated woman, I can't see that same wanker slamming the door in HER face. (and getting away with it!)
