I know there's at least one previous thread on this, but can't find it with the wonky search engine.

Yes, it's a fine score -- and film! Especially the main theme.

Stupid movie, fun rhythmic score. Randy Edelman is the synth John Williams.

Yeah, did a quick search before posting, but didn't find anything.

Good memories from the cinema in 1996 with this one.

Actually, I think the three first tracks on the album, Daylight, Latura's Theme and Searching For A Miracle are very good. SFAM reminds me of Edelman's THE INDIAN IN THE CUPBOARD from the same year.

Must ping Edelman for sale royalty!!

It's a fun album Kev, great slippery, raindroppy electronic rhythms driving the orchestra.
The sometimes overlooked Diabolique is the perfect b-side to Daylight. Now that I think of it, Daylight could be like playing Diabol at 45rpm!

Experiment time!!

Pulled the CD down from my collection the other day and really enjoyed it. You either love or hate Edelman's style but I myself think he perfectly mixes synth and orchestra. Great musical motifs run throughout this score and it's one of those albums you play straight through without skipping.

I am glad to see Randy Edelman get some love. The man is a tunesmith and knows how to write a great melody. I personally love all his music (yes that includes his non-soundtrack albums where he sings too). Daylight, xXx, The Quest, The Mummy Tomb of the Dragon Emperor. The man can write some great action. The Mask, Shanghai Noon, Gettysburg, Dragonheart etc. He has done some great work. The man does not get enough respect.

I started a thread on here called, "Composers You Love and Didn't Even Know it." Randy was on the top of my list. I enjoy almost all his scores though I prefer full orchestra. He's very talented and regardless of the tools he uses makes the most out of it.

Edit: I went to spin this and realized I didn't even have it imported into iTunes. Now corrected!

The man does not get enough respect.

I remember FSM almost bullying him in the 90s.

Not good.

I have to check out Daylight again. But I do love Edelman's score to Down Periscope (1996).

The highlights of his Gettysburg score are SO good. I've struggled with this for years, hating the cheapness but enjoying the good parts of the score regardless. I thought that maybe a fully orchestral version would have been better, but when I hear an orchestra try to play the score, it sounds like a goddamn mess and I go right back to the original. Maybe I'm just listening to poor performances/arrangements, I don't know.

This performance of the main title is decent, actually.

Daylight is a great score by Edelman. I still remember the day I bought this almost 20 years ago. Still enjoying the film also on blu-ray. Hope some day some label can do expanded and remastered edition along with Edelman’s best score Dragonheart.
