"Those who have the expanded album: are there melodies on it not heard on the original album? I'm on the fence about it but I often get disappointed by expanded edition soundtrack because in my opinion most of the times all they offer are just longer editions without any missing or significant melodies" -------------- I would say this is an upgrade you need to get, if you like the original score or JNH/90's music. I never really warmed to the 30 minute 'highlights' album, save a few cues, finding it too low-key and minimal, in the main. I'm hearing LOTS of cues that I like better than the ones previously available. More gentle, tender thematic scoring tracks. More exciting action/percussion tracks. Even the unheard suspense tracks are really well done. And it sounds really good. Top notch booklet/liner notes too. This is what expanded editions are all about.

You're welcome Also.. The book-ending of this score, and it's orig/alt versions, with the propulsive/heroic trailer music, makes for a great start and finish to proceedings.
This is such a different listening experience to the original 30 minute release. John (spymaster) sums it up perfectly, saying it breathes so much better in its fuller form. I never did like or take to the first issue, but this one offers so much more. It ebbs and flows so much better and some of the previously unreleased music is superb. It's fast becoming one of my favourite JNH scores too.
Does anyone know what the cue is playing in the teaser trailer in the first 50 seconds? I don't think it's on this soundtrack, but I've been after it for years.
One of the BEST soundtrack expansions out there. Sends the original crummy 30 minute edition to oblivion. A revelation in complete form. And much better sound too. Well Done Intrada.
Got my copy from Deep Discount today, for a very nice $16 and change. Can't wait to give this a listen tonight, as this was one of the earliest Howard scores I ever owned on CD.
i wrote to JNH on instagram - telling him I had placed him in the upper left corner - ALIVE along with the BF batch from la la (6 cd's all in all divided into 3 rows)
he replied with a NICE
but i would also bet that he liked that i am supporting his work by buying the official music (intrada)
for me I like the JNH from the village and forward and then with some retrospective - he was always that rytmic dude when i grew up in the 90's so THE VILLAGE was first time I heard him go all classical and then KING KONG
Ahhh those were the days - 20 years ago
then i was mostly williams, barry, conti, kamen, goldsmith, horner, goldenthal - those were the known ones
then with Arnold coming up - and Serra (james bond, id4, the fifth element) and then Davis with his matrix
I finally cracked open the booklet to read the notes tonight...and found they were all totally printed out of order. This happen to anyone else? Same here. Got replacement booklet - it had same problems. Probably something wrong with printing plant.
The Documentary "Alive: "20 Years Later" features some unique synthesized versions of the main themes (probably demo versions), credited as Composed and Performed by JNH.
