I would like to draw some attention to a sublime composer who definitely deserves bigger recognition -- Penka Kouneva.
Just received her score ENCOUNTER and want to recommend it to everyone. It's an impressive score, full of energy, mysticism and passion. I'm very happy that Bryon Davis (Note4Note) has supported a physical CD release of this exciting music.
All I can say is that I believe Penka is such a consummate artist. She's well versed in the use of the symphony orchestra, but also able to use modern technologies to augment the sonic palette. She can create an original score presenting a chemistry of traditional composing plus modern sound.
If you're looking for a more intimate work, then I also recommend her INVISIBLE LIFELINE. This one is deeply emotional, more introspective, a sensible and very beautiful work, inspired by some personal motivations.
I can't find enough words to express my admiration for Penka's output. In certain way she reminds me of the great Shirley Walker -- incredibly talented, kind with other people, also a professional orchestrator of immeasurable skills... and as a composer she can write a helluva action score!
Now when I see one of LLL's next releases will be PANDORA with music by Penka Kouneva, I couldn't be happier.
Haven't heard her music her name has recently popped-up a lot, I have been meaning too get a yard-stick for similarities but with all the excitement of 2019 archives/premiers I merely forgot, Thanks for voicing Kouneva & Byron, i love too know new composers on the right projects i added 2 more composers in 2019 these gals - guys could be the future.
Right now listening to ENCOUNTER! I am delighted with Penka's ENCOUNTER and PANDORA with Joe Kramer. To me it seems she is hitting her peak as a composer. I have all her scores and these along with WOMAN ASTRONAUT have been just outstanding.
