TRIVIA---January 23, 2020 is the 141st anniversary of the end of the Zulu siege of the British outpost at Rorke's Drift which was portrayed in ZULU, the movie that made Michael Caine a star.
Caine was a struggling actor who had already been turned down for the key role of Hook in ZULU when he barely got the role of Lieutenant Bromhead. After filming began, a production secretary gave Caine a telegram from Paramount Studios in London which said, “Fire Michael Caine. He doesn’t know what to do with his hands.” Lieutenant Bromhead was a soldier of privileged background, so Caine used his hands based on how Prince Philip used his hands.
Caine then confronted producer and co-star Stanley Baker about the telegram, '“I know you’re going to fire me,” I began, concocting some wildly improbable tale of having accidentally seen the telegram in his office, “and I completely understand and I’ll go at once”.
He stood there for a moment and I realized he was actually angry.
“I am the producer of this movie, Michael,” he said. “Have I fired you?”
“No, Stan,” I said.
“Then get on with your job – and stop reading my f***ing mail or I will fire you!”'

Michael Caine and Stanley Baker starred in ZULU, the movie that made Caine a star.

I saw that clip from The View.
It was actually quite touching to see Whoopi so moved by the invite.
The audience went nuts.
She was grinning from ear to ear. Who wouldn't be?

BILLCARSON:

I know it's Hook....because I watched ZULU last night on the 141st anniversary.

Ouch, dude!
I said I watched only just the clip!
It was a 2-minutes-long thing on The YouTube.

In this new series, Guinan will deny the Earth has a moon.

I saw it on Youtube, too.....but I won't admit it.

With that hair, Whoopi could return as a new alien species.

An audience that's probably never watched a single episode of ST:TNG.

And the applause sign was probably up. Some of these shows, even shows that aren't meant to be comedy, have warn up people to get people in the mood; some will even supply alcohol.

They're lemmings. And the worst kind -- the kind that goes to a taping, willingly and not as a hostage, of "The View".

And some events, like the awards shows, will have paid seat fillers. If not enough people attend or they want it to always look full, they'll pay people to sit there. I know, 'cause my sister was an actress who took gigs like paid seat filler, to makes ends meat out there. Paid to do nothing!

I cut the cable ages ago, so I don't watch these shows (and I would not be inclined to watch them in the first place).
But The Missus (or newly "ex" Missus, I should say) would watch clips of the Ellen show on The YouTube late at night just before bed.
I would literally have to put a pillow over my head to keep the loud, high-pitched screaming of the audience from cutting through my brain.

She loves Ellen.
I do not feel quite the same way.

I'd go if they would supply the tomatoes, so I can throw them at the hosts on stage.
