DARKMAN – 30th ANNIVERSARY: LIMITED EDITION (2-CD SET)
LLLCD 1503
Music by Danny Elfman
Limited Edition of 3000 Units
RETAIL PRICE: $29.98

STARTS SHIPPING JAN 31

Orders start 12 noon (pst) on 1/28 at www.lalalandrecords.com

La-La Land Records, Universal Pictures, Universal Music Special Markets and Geffen Records celebrate the 30th Anniversary of the 1990 motion picture DARKMAN with a remastered and expanded 2-CD presentation of renowned composer Danny Elfman’s (BATMAN, BATMAN RETURNS, EDWARD SCISSORHANDS) original score. This beloved sci-fi/horror/action hybrid starring Liam Neeson, Francis McDormand and Larry Drake, and directed by Sam Raimi, marked the first collaboration between Raimi and composer Danny Elfman – a union that would continue to flourish, resulting in such notable scores as A SIMPLE PLAN, SPIDER-MAN, SPIDER-MAN 2, OZ THE GREAT AND POWERFUL.

DARKMAN finds Elfman in the period following his immortal, breakthrough BATMAN score, and here, he unleashes another gothic and expressionistic orchestral wonder – a tragic, haunting, brooding and darkly romantic musical deep dive that is rich in theme and brimming with classic film score motifs.

DISC 1 of this anniversary presentation features a remaster of the original 1990 soundtrack assembly, while DISC 2 finally unleashes the expanded film score in all of its might!

Produced by Mike Matessino and Neil S. Bulk, and mastered by Matessino, this limited edition release of 3000 units features a bounty of previously unreleased music. The releases’ exclusive, in-depth liner notes are by writer Daniel Schweiger and the robust art direction is by Dan Goldwasser.

So which cues were by Jonathan Sheffer?

I am sure it will be noted in the CD liner notes.

I found a mistake in the liner notes. Tony Garden should be Tony Gardner.

So I'm a bit confused.

The product page says "Ships January 31", but I've already gotten a flurry of order updates (I ordered mine the moment it went up...kept refreshing my mobile browser). The latest one is "Shipped - Label created, USPS awaiting item"

Is it really going to sit there waiting until the 31st, or are they shipping them out now?

I guess I got my answer because the post office accepted the package last night, and it's starting to work its way through the system! Very happy! Barring complications, I'll be enjoying this as a reward at the end of a work week smile

Batman Rejects

Disagree. It's an exciting Elfman score from one of his most invigorating periods of composition.

Peyton on the Run, Chopper Spree, Shake Him and Durant Bites It. Essentially all of the stuff involving the helicopter. As far as I can remember anyway.

curious that the anouncement says nothing about this

I know that Sheffer's contributions were credited in the film's end titles ("Additional music by Jonathan Sheffer"), so the liner notes should specify.

Typical Danny James Elfman Horner Outing. Too Familiar. A Mish Mash of Nothingness.

I intended to respond here, but then I guess everyone knows what I'm going to say. What is my go-to response here? If you guess correctly, you'll win a trip to the Bahamas.

DARKMAN is a great score, btw.

Someone I have on block called this Batman Rejects.

Which is hilarious, considering nothing they will ever do in their entire life will rank up to what they consider Danny Elfman on a bad day.

Must suck to live that life.

I am very much looking forward to hearing the full score. The album is kind of perfect, but this is still a favorite genre pic from the time.

And yes, Elfman is working in the same idiom as Batman. But here created a distinctive sound world, which I can love all day long. A real sense of tragedy runs through the darkly antic score.

Love it! And now - I'll love it more!!

Wow. All these years I thought "Shake Him" was the only track written by Sheffer.

curious that the anouncement says nothing about this

The track list should've at least specified which track(s) were written by Sheffer. Hopefully it's revealed in the liner notes.
