    "The Price of Terror"
    By: Billy May
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dQ07m5LvJLE

    Highlights:
  • 42:04 in. Sounds like there's a tiny edit in the music.*
  • 45:21 in.

That's all that should be released from this episode score. I think you might even be able to combine the cues.

    * = Fucking damnit. One thing I've learned to hate about May's scoring: When he gets lazy and just does endless cymbal tapping runs with some noodling over it. It really gets old quickly. I was worried I'd come across this!

"A Quiet Weekend in the Country"
    By: Billy May
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gvRwd5oY9Jg

    Highlights:
  • 3510 in.

On a set of season one scoring, I'm not sure I'd include either of these two cues.

Thanks so much for documenting these Justin. There's some really great music featured in a lot of these old programs and in a lot of ways, probably destined to remain confined to the film they're attached to.

Surprisingly with 120 episodes made during 1967-73, there aren't many complete episodes to watch on YouTube and the like and the picture and sound quality is sub-standard on a lot of clips. The episode samplings here are top notch remastered and look and sound terrific.

I can see Shorty Rogers' jazz influence and perhaps the beginnings of his TV career starting here. He scored the first season only of "The Partridge Family" (subsequently replaced by Hugo Montenegro from Season 2), and there's a tracked cue from that season that appears several times and is in a similar melancholy guitar-playing vein from his Mod Squad days but it's not. I always wondered if it was Shorty and now I know.

I hope you'll continue to catalog the music for those of us interested. Put it this way I'm considering seeking out the series box set for myself to re-experience the music scores. Although I did see some individual seasons available on DVD about ten years ago, I'm fairly certain the series hasn't been seen in reruns on Australian TV for 30 years, albeit it's still fondly remembered.

Yes, I also fear most of the scoring I have noted in various threads, will NEVER see the light of day. :-(

The problem is there are not legal loads of the episodes up (otherwise I'd have given readers the option to click on that instead like I have in other threads [like "The Simpsons"), so the reason you don't find loads more often on Youtube is that the loads put up are copyright violation sand the videos get deleted and after enough violations, the channels get deleted. But as of right now, the channel I am using, appears to have most, if not all the episodes. I will continue through the series until such time as the channel gets Youtubed/Googled.

So long as I have the free time, I will be going from one series to another. From police dramas, to westerns, to private detectives, to others. It's a large bonanza of work.

I have the Mod Squad view-master reels. The episode they used is "Bad Man on Campus."

Link's Afro must be experienced in 3-D to be fully appreciated.

I wonder if some of these scores credited to both composers are track jobs. That said, on I Spy and The Andy Griffith Show at least, I'm fairly certain Hagen (or guest composers) got to write a complete original orchestral score for every episode.

I love Hagen in general so I'm enjoying any time you spotlight his work.

I've heard some similar stuff, but off hand nothing tracked from a prior episode. It's remarkable how much better the episode scores get when Hagen is either the main composer or co-composer.

The rest of the episodes are added now, starting with "Keep the Faith, Baby".

    Same here.

I was very disappointed that FSM didn't do any more volumes of I Spy; I do remember that Hagen said that every episode of that show got a 'fresh' score, although he developed generic material as well that could be re-used in different ways (as it would have been impossible to come up with totally new music each time). The way he blended indigenous music into his jazz scores was remarkable.

What's unique about Hagen's work for "The Mod Squad" is that he would use the 12 tone method in some of his episode scores (such as for "Mother Of Sorrow").

    SEASON 2:

If you don't see and episode listed, it's because this season had tracked episodes with no credited composer(s).

Unfortunately, this is all of season two for now; reasons below.

NOTES Some loads are BAD; I did what I could; please ignore those. I only did what I could so at a future date when I find a good load, I don't have to do as much.

I mention on some loads that the audio is out-of-sync in case any body is using DVD's or watching it on online pay platforms, using my times; that way you know they won't quite sync up. Keep in mind these loads may begin in-sync, but they go out-of-sync as the episode progresses.

  • 40:05 in.
  • 53:40 in.
  • 58:26 in.
  • 59:49 in.
  • 1:06:30 in.

A change of pace with some Spanish-flavored cues and some lighter material.

Unfortunately, the episode freeze-frames for about fifteen minutes and no sound can be heard, so I can't tell you about the score in those minutes.
    EDIT: 17:57 (freeze frame)

Man, season two de-evolved quickly, starting with an ESP episode and now this. And this one is longer than normal!

I think I cited everything but one or two cues.
This may be the most enjoyable score from May I've ever heard.

May should have at least gotten an Emmy nomination for this episode score.
I did a look and Hagen was only nominated for an award once in his career, for an Emmy, which he won (an episode of "I Spy").

    Load title is mis-labeled.

    SEASON 3:

If you don't see and episode listed, it's because this season had tracked episodes with no credited composer(s).

Unfortunately, this is all of season three for now; reasons below.

NOTES: Some loads are BAD; I did what I could; please ignore those. I only did what I could so at a future date when I find a good load, I don't have to do as much. I mention on some loads that the audio is out-of-sync in case any body is using DVD's or watching it on online pay platforms, using my times; that way you know they won't quite sync up. What an awful episode. The Mod Squad: Crime solvers, life savers, and ... sexual education warriors???
And then it perpetuates that long-standing myth of razor blades and dangerous items in items handed out during Halloween. The whole reason people in the U.S. were worried about that and X-Raying candy and other bullshit was because some dad put poison in the Halloween candy his kids got and they died. People worried about this shit for decades because of him and this show only perpetuated that. It wasn't until a year or two ago some guy actually got caught putting things into Halloween candy handed out, that shouldn't be, causing justified worried.

All new links for season one.

As the rest of the series was done with poor out-of-sync loads, I'll have to start over from scratch with those.

    Continuing SEASON 1:

Doubling back to one episode I missed from this season. Still two episodes shy of finishing the season (the loads of the missing episodes on this new channel, has about ten minutes of the episode edited out one and a duplicate of another episode, so I'm skipping both).

    Highlights:
  • 0:00 in.
  • 1:00 in.
  • 10:24 in. Cool groovy material.
  • 30:05 in.
  • 32:15 in.
  • 42:15 in. Joining a cue already in progress for the cool stuff. And yes, I'd edit off the opening stuff just to get to this for an official release. I promise to flog myself vigorously later.
  • 44:18 in.
  • 46:54 in. I'm not sure I'd include this cue on a set of season one scoring, as it falls apart around the end.

    Out-of-content quote...

Turns out these are the exact same bad videos from the previous channel, so same guy re-using the same freeze frame videos, so I have gone ahead and updated the season two links as well. Working on the other seasons as well.
