Elmer Bernstein's is credited with the very aptly sparse score from one of my favorite movies. Presumably, he wrote the simple but elegant opening and closing guitar solos. But the two or three numbers playing out of the radio in De Wilde's shirt pocket; might they be C&W tunes written and recorded by other artists?
Track: First opening scene where De Wilde hitch's a ride in the pickup. All the while during the ride one song's playing until he's on the street and switches off the radio.
Track: Scene where the radio's playing a different song while De Wilde's fetching Newman from the house of the married woman he's seeing.
And its playing again when they're out on the range after Newman leaves him sitting on a rock babysitting the dead cow.
Track: Scene when both are heading in the car for a night on the town. De Wilde hits the car radio which is playing the first few banjo notes of the first song before Newman gets annoyed and switches it off.
Anyone know the names of these songs and who recorded them?
Were they ever issued on CD?
I don't think they were ever included in any "Hud" soundtrack album by Kritzerland or any other label.

I had access to the cue sheet when I helped with the Kritzerland CD.
The first source cue in the film is called "Wabash Cannon Ball" arranged by A.P. Carter.
The second is called "Driftwood on the River" by John Klenner and Bob Miller.
