My iTunes randomly played this track from THE THOMAS CROWN AFFAIR tonight and I was not sure I had ever heard it. Legrand covers this tune so naturally you forget he actually wrote the gorgeous melody. He really had a voice, and after his recent passing, hearing him interpret his own wonderful music put a huge smile on my face...I actually listened to it a few times. I have always loved Legrand's scores for THE THREE MUSKETEERS, THE OTHER SIDE OF MIDNIGHT and ICE STATION ZEBRA..but I feel I have a world of Legrand in front of me to discover! RIP Michel
I agree with Legrand's voice its very-cool for Thomas-Crown & effective his tones of vocal in The Man Who Loved Cat Dancing was also very slick you've got too respect a composer who's willing to use there voice that takes huge courage.
i didn't find out Legrand passed till sometime after & his last score i picked that up it shows Legrand was still top of his game The Other Side of the Wind is a beauty of classical tapestries with his traditionalist jazz roots to indulge too.
As much as I am a fan of many of Legrand's soundtracks, his singing can not generate enthusiasm in me. He sounds like Charles Aznavour, and most of the tracks he sings in could do without any vocals anyway, regardless by whom.
I share your love for "Ice station Zebra", and if you haven't had these yet, I seriously suggest "Le Mans" and his most beautiful of all his score: "Wuthering heights". That one is stunning!
