I've got the Live in Japan. It's an expanded version of a cam lp from the mid 70s that I've owned since it came out. The lp features Rota conducting live. One side is all Fellini and the other side is Godfather, etc. The cd has more titles. I prefer the brevity of the lp program, but I'm okay with the padding. The performances are sharp. Very much recommend this, as it makes a nice compliment to the soundtracks and it is Rota conducting instead of Savina.
These are two Japanese releases which were licensed from CAM in Italy. Therefore they contain material which was owned by CAM. The first CD "Nino Rota Plays Nino Rota" is from 1993 (and not from 1989 as mentioned on the Soundtrack Collector website): https://www.discogs.com/de/Nino-Rota-Nino-Rota-Plays-Nino-Rota/release/10072157
Above all the "Musiche da Film" LP from 1974 is an excellent album and all the tracks are superbly played and conducted. It is a must-have album for any Rota fan.
The 1977 Live in Japan CAM LP was the basis for this later expanded "Live in Japan" SLC CD . As you can see yourself, the tracks by the other composers (Ortolani, Rustichelli, Morricone) as well as a few more Fellini selections, the SUNSET SUNRISE selection and the "Guardano il Fuji-Yama" track at the end of the CD were not included on the former CAM LP of this 1977 Japan concert with the New Japan Philharmonic Orchestra, but all the other ones are there.
