Don't know if it's a peek or not, but Giacchino says it's his music. Director Matt Reeves also chimed in on Twitter saying 'wait until you hear the rest of it!'
So sure seems like it's something that might have been okayed and planned to use.
For me it sounds only like a build up for and not the theme itself so I can't say anything about it. However, I like parts of the suit that was shown and can't wait when they give us the full look on new Batman.
Too short for a bigger impression, but the look kind of reminds me of the aesthetic of "Year One", or even Watchmen. Or something Brian Azzarello & Eduardo Risso could have done.
The music is probably just a mock-up, can't wait to hear more. Sounds appropriate for what I think Batman is: a dark and lonely adventurer, lurking in the shadows of a post-modernist city.
I give a stand-up applause if they go that route -- both visually and musically.
Haha. It made me think of the Imperial March too!!
... or E.T. (Sending the Signal) ... or CE3K (The Cover-up and Base Camp) ... or The Eiger Sanction (The Microfilm Killing) ... or The Fury (beginning of Death On a Carousel) ...
It's really part of Williams' musical language, kind of an equivalent to Horner's "Danger Motif".
Funny how one of the most consonant intervals can sound ominous...
Hefti's theme, essentially a blues, was right on and has a contrasting bridge which hardly anyone knows. Fun music for a fun show before Batman became creepy.
