Are they using Neal Hefti's classic theme?

Oh, no, please NO !!

Hefti's theme, essentially a blues, was right on and has a contrasting bridge which hardly anyone knows. Fun music for a fun show before Batman became creepy.

Yes, I haven't followed Batman much since the 60s that theme & the music set a high bar of Riddle & May I even love those layered musical dialogues - the animation or films followed doesn't have that nostalgic fire, I could be wrong but all I know really is that Sun Ra did a cover.

The 1989 movie that I watched fully was ok Palance is a great actor he was underused stupidly a pity, that score & theme lacked all the Batman fundamentals that could of been used for opera most part, I get that Batman became more serious he also went kinda stale.

Personally I like Nolan Dunkirk - but I could care less for Dark Knight I won't watch em the scores I may check out eventually coz there cheap.

I'm really digging that a lot. It has a 70's big city detective on the prowl vibe that hopefully suggests the direction they're going with it.

I’ve read that it will focus more on the detective aspect of the comics, which is cool.

New trailer is up. Looks like it incorporates Giacchino's "theme" (I like to say chord progression from a i to flat VI chord).

Looks like a promising film. Matt Reeves has never disappointed so far. I hope Gia approaches this score like Let Me In which was more textural based. Personally, I'd love it if someone finally scored Batman like a horror film (not stingers, but just that overwhelming sense of dread). He's not a superhero in the classic sense of the word.

Well, I'd say he's not a superhero in the modern sense of the word.

Sooo, I've been listening to Gia's theme. Honestly I'm trying to get into it. But then, hearing the intervallic relationships and chord voicings, does it not bear a bit of similarity to this guy?

Yes. Yes. Yes. It could only bring joy to a film that I can already tell will be a downer and full of unnecessary angst. It needs more Adam West.

Your musical training is far above mine but my first thought watching the trailer when Giacchino's theme is utilized--all I could hear was slight changes from part of Williams' Imperial March, played far more slowly.

I'm sold.

Young Batman
Solving a mystery like the detective he's supposed to be - helping the cops
A Batmobile based on a car rather than a military prototype
Bootblack around his eyes with the mask off
Jeffrey Wright as Gordon
This Batman can actually move quickly in the suit and kick serious ass
The Penguin looks like an actual person
Catwoman looks like she's actually Catwoman
And The Riddler sounds actually scary
No artificial cancer voice modulation

Hells to the yes.

First off I did NOT like the trailer at all and secondly I did not notice the music or at least not that I remember so I am NOT looking forward to this even if I probably will see it anyway.

If I had to guess, this music wasn’t written by Giacchino but his theme has been incorporated into its fabric. And yes, the Imperial March also comes to mind. Except the theme vamps on the single chord progression whereas Williams modulates and takes it many different places.

The trailer uses Something in the Way by Nirvana redone

The "theme" that everyone is talking about is just the two chords from the song.

I honestly was not particularly impressed with the trailer but I have high hopes for the film.

Right but that's what Gia debuted a few months ago with the initial costume reveal. Perhaps it's his idea of humour and he's saving his real theme for the film... but after lots of back and forth with fans on Twitter, it seems like his "theme" is legit....

I guess we will see. I don't often align myself with Thor (ok, never really) but I will say I'm not super optimistic for a score that will be musically satisfying. Will it work within the film? Probably. Matt Reeves and Gia have a solid track record. And I guess that's what counts at the end of the day.
