TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 25

INDIANA JONES 5---Harrison Ford said the latest sequel must have the quality of a Marvel Studios movie, “I don’t really want to give them what they want to see, I want to give them something they didn’t anticipate. They are used to a degree of disappointment when you revisit. Certainly, the Marvel movies have made a spectacular example of a success of worked the other way around, they killed it! Well, we’re not going to make another Indiana Jones unless we are in a position to kill it. We want it to be the best. We’ve got some scheduling issues and a few script things to do but we are determined to get it right before we get it made.”

LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS---Chris Evans in in talks to play sadistic dentist Orin Scrivello, who was played by Steve Martin in the 1986 movie.

DOCTOR WHO---viewership declined for the fourth consecutive week with the "Ascension of the Cyberman" episode drawing only 3.7 million viewers which is barely above the franchise record low of 3.71 million viewers for the 1986 episode "The Mysterious Planet". BBC drama chief Piers Wenger was asked if it is time to give the series a rest amidst the declining ratings and much fan criticism, “I worked on DOCTOR WHO myself and produced it for many years and I can honestly say I don’t think it’s been in better health editorially. The production values have never been better. It’s also not just funded by the BBC, it’s funded by lots of international partners."
He added, “It’s an incredibly important show for young audiences, it’s still watched by families in a world where there are fewer shows that have the power to do that. It will always be an important show for us and we’re a very long way from wanting to rest it.”

THE MISTER---Universal Pictures bought the movie rights to the new EL James (FIFTY SHADES OF GREY) novel which is about a wealthy British aristocrat who falls in love with his Albanian housekeeper, who is being pursued by human traffickers.

DIANE WARREN---Paramount Pictures is developing a drama movie based on new and old songs written by Diane Warren, whose songs have appeared in MANNEQUIN, CON AIR, PEARL HARBOR, UP CLOSE AND PERSONAL and PATCH ADAMS.

SUPERHEROES---Liam Neeson said he is not interested in returning to superhero movies after appearing in BATMAN BEGINS, “I’m really not a huge fan of the genre. I think it’s Hollywood with all the bells and whistles and the technical achievements and stuff – which I admire – but I have no desire to go into the gym for three hours every day to pump myself up to squeeze into a Velcro suit with a cape.
It’s just not my genre, it really isn’t. The first STAR WARS, I was in that, that was 22 years ago, and I enjoyed that, because it was novel and that was new. I was acting to tennis balls, which were ultimately going to be little fuzzy furry creatures and stuff. That was interesting, acting-wise, to try and make that seem real, but that was the last. It’s quite exhausting.”

THE WALKING DEAD---Chandler Riggs said he thought Carl Grimes would not be killed off in the zombie series, "In the comics, Carl lives until the end. So I didn’t think that Carl’s story would end at any point. I found out when we were doing rehearsals for episode 6 of season 8. I was pretty bummed out at the time, but now I get to go on and do other things. It’s fun, it’s really fun being able to explore other roles and be able to actually audition for films and whatnot. When I was on the show, I was locked into the show. I couldn’t do anything else. So it’s really cool to be able to do other things in the meantime when I’m not working."

THE COUNTRY---Sean William Scott will appear in the Fox/Paul Feig mockumentary remake of the BBC Three series.

TRIVIA---in NATIONAL TREASURE: BOOK OF SECRETS, Riley Poole's Ferrari 430 is seized by the IRS because he did not pay his income taxes. At the end of the movie, his Ferrari is returned by The President with his tax debt forgiven----but the car is a Ferrari 360.

Poole's Ferrari is returned by The President, but it is a Ferrari 360.

RE: Indiana Jones- So they don’t even have a script yet and theres still schedule conflicts? Yawn, same old, same old. This isn’t any closer to reality than it was a decade ago.

RE: Doctor Who- I was going to stay “tone deaf”, but the fact HBO was stupid enough to purchase the US distribution rights, BBC and the show-runners are happy to destroy the franchise with their agenda.

And yet, he's the star in Darkman, one of the best comicbook styled movies ever made. Though he definitely said similar in the bluray interview (He'd work with Raimi again in an instant but wouldn't do anything involving elaborate prosthetics ever again)

Neeson would rather remake the same action film in different locations.

That's a really round about way of saying you knew you made a terrible sequel with KotCS even though you read the script and knew what you were getting into in advance and that it was not only nowhere near the level of the first and third films of the original three, it was below ToD (by a wide margin)! And yet you signed on to do it anywhere.

ScreenRant pitch meeting executive: "Because money, that's why."

It's not going to be possible with today's writers, and today's Spielberg, to make another good Indiana Jones movie, so give it up, Ford baby. Move on. Move out of your Nostalgic Parent's basement.

Looks like Steven Spielberg will not be directing INDIANA JONES 5. James Mangold is the likely replacement.

So, just how loyal will James Mangold be to having Williams score it?

James Mangold's composer choices on the films he's directed:
  • Clint Mansell (replaced on "Logan")
  • John Powell
  • Marco Beltrami (three times)
  • T Bone Burnett (once)
  • Alan Silvestri
  • Angelo Badalamenti (replaced on "Identity")
  • Mychael Danna
  • Howard Shore
  • Terrence Blanchard (replaced on "Cop Land": http://rejectedfilmscores.125mb.com/supposedly.html )
  • Thurston Moore (once, directorial debut)

Ford Versus Ferrari is a good film.
If Steven wants this film scored by Williams, it will be done.

Darkman was a long long time ago, almost 10 years before Phantom Menace,

Spielberg has let me down again! I wanted him to continue directing this series AND the JURASSIC PARK series. Now he's making a film I don't at all care about, a WEST SIDE STORY remake.

A The Shadow film starring Adam Driver directed by Sam Raimi would be ace!

Not being a fan at all of Indy 4 and having no intention of seeing Indy 5 except for when it's free at a mate's house, so i'm not bothered Spielberg has left. But does it suggest that Indy might die and Spielberg doesn't want to help bury the body? Oooooooooooh? It'll be interesting to see just how MCU-like the film is, like Ford suggests it would benefit from. They already did the blue skybeam in Raiders, so maybe he's right.
