Howard the Duck and The Golden Child both by John Barry
Rejected or not these scores were the best ones to emerge from 1986.We didn't have them back then but we do have them now - don't we? Our gain - their loss!
In a telephone survey of 100 people yesterday, 100 of them said that they had "no idea" which film won for Best Original Score in 1986. When they were told the list of nominees, 29 people said THE MISSION, 3 people said ROUND MIDNIGHT, 40 people just chose something else on the list at random, and the other 28 people didn't give a title at all because they hadn't heard of any of the films.
In "Part Two" of the survey, 76 people said that they had "heard of" Ennio Morricone, adding that the name "Jerry Goldsmith" rang a bell for STAR WARS. One person said that they had "heard of" Herbie Hancock but when pressed admitted that he couldn't be sure.
