From e-mail sent to customers this morning...

Dear customer:

These are difficult and harrowing times for almost all of us. This pandemic is global, and we are all scared. In our case, we have been forced to temporarily suspend our activity because all non-essential businesses must be closed in our country, as in many other parts of the world.

In April 2020 Quartet Records will celebrate its 10 anniversary, and we had prepared—with great effort and a lot of work—what we think would be an impressive line of releases through the end of the year. But although we need to delay many of these releases, and come up with some great ones for 2021, we are sure that together—in unity with the whole planet—we will overcome this crisis. These releases will see the light someday, and everything will return to normal—even though our lives might look very different.

Music may be a “non-essential” business, but it's essential to our souls and minds—indeed, to our very lives. That's why we have advanced our usual big summer 30% sale to now. It's a time when many people need music to overcome these days of isolation (however long they may last), and for this reason we have put our entire catalog at 30% discount for the next three weeks. As usual, if you buy 7 products or more, you will have free shipping worldwide.

As we have done with previous summer offers, we will start sending all the orders when the sale ends within three weeks. We really hope and pray that the world goes back to normality then, so please be patient and understanding. Not every country has the same restrictions right now, and, of course, we don't want to endanger anyone's life in these moments when food and medical products are the most necessary. But we can assure you that you will receive your order, and that you can trust us, as always. If there are delays, we will contact you, and of course you can always contact us at info and order email address.

Please note that we will only be working on a very reduced-hour basis for the next few weeks.

In these moments, where there will no new Quartet releases for at least two months, we are infinitely grateful for your support. These hard times are impacting everyone, but in business terms they are especially hard for small independent companies like ours.

Please be safe, stay home and take this time to listen good film music!

It's a shame sales don't really work anymore, unless they're 90% off or something. The combination of insane shipping costs, and the Norwegian krone being at an alltime low (due, in part, to our current situation), there are no deals to be made at 30% off. That being said, were I still buying CDs, there are some great gems in Quartet's catalogue for those of you with sufficient funds.

KNOCK is still available for some unexplicable reason.

El Hombre y la Tierra (Man and Earth)

Paid full price for this one. Don't regret it a bit. One of my absolute favorite Quartet releases.

So your currency is bad but you expect 90% too work. Quartet sales are too generous i'm astonished they still cut 30 that's ad-hoc, barring Chris Soundtrack Corner no boutique-store provides free shipping nor that crazy %. i think downloading mar your ethics Thor.

That's why they offer free international shipping if you buy 7 or more titles. They're providing incentive for you to buy more product than you might normally would, and in return they give you an additional discount (via free shipping) on top of 30% off...

True, but even if you have enough dough to buy 7 titles for the free shipping, the current currency situation makes the prices basically the same as Norwegian retail stores. So there is no deal to be had. Hopefully, times will change, and currencies adjust eventually.

We all saw your post about torrenting Williams' Superman from the Blue Box release when it came out. You don't have to convince us you're just a thief.

And now for something completely different. I just recorded a ‘podcast’ of sorts that discusses the 1969 film, The Italian Job, and its soundtrack on Quartet Records.

You can find a download link below—in Dropbox for now.

If you find it all far too boring and snoozy, I won’t subject you to any more!

Thought I’d list a handful of off-piste suggestions, for those willing to take a chance, should this not be pushing your buttons. The Quartet site has numerous samples you can audition.

Man and Earth - A really strong collection of TV music across 4 CDs. Some lovely melodic writing, exciting action, and playful music. There’s a delightful piece that prefigures James Horner. Lots of variety, plenty to explore.

https://www.quartetrecords.com/product/el-hombre-y-la-tierra/

Zoo Folle / Gli Animali Che Simpatia - Funk, jazz, and soul. Beats and bongos. Crazy jazz flute. A couple of orchestral pieces that are beautiful. This is a sampler’s delight!

https://www.quartetrecords.com/product/zoo-folle-gli-animali-che-simpatia/

Sunset Sunrise - A rare Nino Rota treat in his symphonic mode, composed during the last part of his career. Concise and dramatic. Includes two cover versions of the theme.

https://www.quartetrecords.com/product/sunset-sunrise/

Nunzio - Lalo Schifrin in rapid-fire superhero mode with some piano tenderness and 1978 disco thrown in for good measure. “Hey, Nunzio!” My kids even like the disco opening track.

Who’s Been Sleeping in My Bed / Wives and Lovers - 1963 sex comedy scores that offer more than an initial glance might suggest. 75 minutes of music, album produced by Lukas Kendall.

I'm guessing the sale is over or will be in a few hours. Most of the older catalog titles have reverted to full price with the exceptions being the the first couple pages of new-ish releases.

Given that I may have lost the only job I've known for the last 25 years, I couldn't afford to indulge as much as I have in past years- though I did order more than I probably should have.

I only started to actively collect soundtracks again in earnest starting in late 2015. I credit Quartet's wonderful expansion of The Amityville Horror with re-igniting my appreciation for this stuff. I tallied up all the Q titles I've purchased since then and was floored to find it's well over 100!?!

A lot of films/shows I never heard of and composers I wasn't familiar with, but I took the chance that a label like Quartet wouldn't have gone to the trouble of releasing them if they didn't feel there was value in the work. I can count on one hand the number of chances I took that didn't pan out for me, and still have fingers left over. There are other releases that have since become some of my all-time favorites.

Thanks Quartet! I hope the sale helped keep body & soul together for you a little longer.
Stay safe!

Actually sale will be for 2 more weeks - from Quartet's email:
30% SPECIAL SALE UNTIL APRIL 24TH.

The titles with huge prices are oop titles. Several years ago Quartet got some oop titles from one of their retailer and placed them for regular price (16.95 etc.).
Seems that they got another batch of oop titles. But sadly now they placed them based on "market" prices frown

The prices on everything are back down now, but it wasn't just the odd O-o-P titles that were higher, it seemed to be everything past the second or third page. All the general in-stock releases were back to their usual price 11xx and 16xx or whatever it was for single disc titles.

Weird.
