It might sound weird but the first album that comes to mind is The Abyss. The original release was fine though I didn't listen to it often. And while I'm not an expert but, personally, I think it plays better as a longer presentation. Sure some if the music is more atmospheric than anything else but, as a whole, I believe it works better.

Despite it being a highly lauded score, I could never get into BLACK BEAUTY by Danny Elfman, on the original CD.
I can't remember how or why I bothered to pick up the LLL expansion (maybe for sale at LLL or eBay) but I find it to be a much better listening experience, with two or three previously unreleased cues that are amongst my favourites from the score.

For me, the 3-disc LLL Die Hard release was a revelation. The movie is one of my all time favorites, but I never enjoyed the score by itself anywhere near as much. I missed out on the Varese single disc, but I did get the original 2-disc LLL released, and I thought that closed the book on the score. I wasn't originally going to buy the latest release, but when La La Land had one of its sales I caved. The 3 disc set has much better sound, and I appreciate the score far more as a standalone listen than I ever had before. So well done La La Land!

Interesting. For lots of reasons I've been hemming and hawing about deluxing my OST. I've always thought the ROCKETEER album was a flawless album assembly and didn't feel the itch I expected to when Intrada's expansion came out. I may have to revisit. What are your favorite cues not on the OST?

I also wondered what was the need for an expansion of what I felt was a perfect album. But I too am very glad I did finally pick this up - now that I know what was missing, I don't think I'll go back to the original release much.

Most recently I'd have to say ALIEN 3 by La-La Land.

This is one where I've been on the fence about for a long time. Do I really need it? The original soundtrack album plays very well, is has lots of great music and a good flow, good sound to.

So I put of buying it. But I have the expanded editions of the other ALIEN scores, and they were all very much worth it, so I finally got ALIEN3 too. Have not listened to it yet, so not sure... but it might be a contender for "expansions I didn't know I needed", because I don't know that I need it so far, but maybe I'm wrong. I got the CD to check it out.

While I have always thought that Alien 3 was a great score, I actually never listened to the original album. I don't know why but I didn't like it.

So I was greatly surprised when I listened to the full score on the La-La Land release, it's a much better listening experience!

A complete edition for Sphere would be welcomed, now. smile

I know Jaws my perfect example, I loved the MCA cd that always lit-up my ears it really had the main & outer flesh & blood, "Promenade" "Preparing the Cage" I kept it, the Decca disc still animates me "The Pier Incident" "3 Barrels under" & "Brody Panics" wonderful, but what Intrada had was absolutely soul-searching I took all their Jaws expansions, I don't know if I needed more its just how healthy Jaws is today.
