Do be careful, and don't go licking your packages. If someone were capable of doing it, would they really stop? Dogs won't stop. I used to able to do it.Until my back went on me

The flu and Coronovirus are both viruses in the same realm (Riboviria) but that is probably irrelevant to the argument which is that every year thousands of people die of the flu (or with the flu, to be more accurate) and nobody bats an eyelid. The people are old, and poor, mostly..... So nothing to see here. But with Coronovirus everyone is confined to their homes and the economy is crashed and the world as we know it is ended. I think it may be worth asking why one is acceptable and the other is not and why alternative views like that of Hitchens are shot down in flames. But yes I do realise this is the wrong thread ?? so on this subject I would just say that what we know about this virus is changing week by week so I would take what people are saying about how long the virus can last on different surfaces with a pinch of salt. For weeks we have been told to keep 2 metres away from each other..... Now we are being told that may not be far enough. I would hate anyone to lick their CDs after 8 days following government's guidelines then find out they were a day out and catch the virus. Mentioning that virus info changes every week highlights that this is NOT the Flu and making comparisons about prognosis and death rates is irrelevant. In contrast, there are decades of Flu statistics, car accident statistics, etc. Erring on the side of safety from the known and unknown about this illness makes sense. Presumably, governments are acting on medical experts and scientists, not what they read in media. As for "the world as we know it ended," you mean the manmade world, and it's not ended. Most of us are far from living in misery like the millions of refugees from war. And there's something wrong with "the system" if economies crash so easily after so short a time. Was it you or Justin who complained that governments weren't acting consistently with quarantines everywhere to reduce the transmission?

Was it you or Justin who complained that governments weren't acting consistently with quarantines everywhere to reduce the transmission? I plead 'not guilty' re the quarantines. I did say that the US policy of locking down one city whilst leaving others did not make sense. And I don't think you get my point, but never mind. You are right in what you say the data, and I agree with that. Which is why, when this is new.with little supportive data it makes sense to explore every avenue and idea. Governments are clearly being led by the science, but I get a sense that they are also pushed in certain directions by the media in the UK - you can see that by the u-turns they have made. The problem is that (and this is my point) the media are emotive and hysterical and are shutting down alternative views.

Saw Peter Hitchens this am presenting an alternative view to the mass hysteria and emotive media manipulation going on out there. And he was ridiculed and shouted down. I am not saying he is right to question why, when on average we lose 17,000 people a year in the UK to flu, we have this hysteria over this virus, and are crashing our economy and locking people in their own homes which could lead to severe emotional problems. I am just saying that following one path without looking at alternatives may not be a good idea. I thought you were coming around buddy? You don't get permanent lung damage from the flu. The rate of infected and death toll is accelerated. New York so far has 1,342 deaths. In what, one or two months? Is that the same pace as the "average" flu? (I really don't know.) Imagine if governments did nothing and everyone just went about their business as usual? Haha I did come around in fact I was on board at the very start and warned people that my friends in Italy were saying it wasn't like flu and to be prepared, but now I find myself caught in the middle to be honest. Well not in the middle, probably 60-40 in your camp. Hey, I know this is different to the flu, but that isn't relevant, I am just saying that there are alternative arguments out there from very clever guys that are not getting heard and are being shut down by the media Have a read of this https://www.statnews.com/2020/03/17/a-fiasco-in-the-making-as-the-coronavirus-pandemic-takes-hold-we-are-making-decisions-without-reliable-data/
