first of all, RIP to Tom Null, a seminal figure in the business.
Secondly, I find very strange that Varese did not break news and/or properly eulogized him..is it ever possible they did not know?

Read the history. There WAS a Varese prior to Bob and prior to Richard K. I was there. From the start.

Where can we find the story...???

Thanks a lot for the link, Nono, and thanks a lot Bruce for this story. Very interesting.
I love A LITTLE ROMANCE, but STAR TREK THE MOTION PICTURE was by far the better score...

"Yes, would love to know who disposed of the tapes and how. I know he had some stuff I would have liked to have since it belonged to me."

So, truth is he was a thief?

Or he innocently borrowed tapes and forgot to give them back to you?

No, he was not a thief. He ended up with some Varese tapes at his house, a couple of which were the multitracks of my projects.

What I took from scanning that (it goes on a bit) was, Jerry Goldsmith probably would have won his 2nd Oscar for Star Trek The Motion Picture, if it wasn't for Bruce Kimmell and all those grasping, free loading Academy members.

One "l" thank you. I thought I kept it pretty succinct, actually. I could have gone on MUCH longer and in MUCH more detail, and do in my book. And Mr. Delerue never thanked me. smile

I don't think we were the first to send stuff to the Academy, but we certainly were there at the start of it and did it in a way that hadn't quite been done before. I actually don't think the score would even be eligible today. But everyone loved the film and that's what tends to win Oscars for score, as you well know. Star Trek is a great score, but A Little Romance had the love.

Album Produced by. The earlier history is in There's Mel, There's Woody, and There's You. That one has all the stuff pre-1993 and the former has all the stuff post 1993.

Sorry to read this, his name is certainly etched into my mind from all those early Varese titles.
