Further to your thoughts on "First Contact"...

I think much of the story was built around Patrick Stewart's wish that he had more action/fighting stuff to do, while the writers wanted the rest of the crew to be comic foils.
Both of those things were the wrong choices, I think.

I like Picard as a thinking man, who could become a man of action on the rare occasion.
And I like Riker as an action man, who could become a man of thought on the rare occasion.

I watched the whole thing first run on TV, and would catch reruns now and again, but largely I’ve not seen any of it in twenty years. I need to rectify that.

Nah, you don't. It's even more boring now. I'm honestly shocked at how poorly it's aged. Even worse than the original series. At any rate........ I love me a good Trek blog.

I've been continuing to send out new issues on Tuesdays.

Here's the one that went out today. I'd be delighted to hear your thoughts on it. And feel free to subscribe and maybe - just maybe - I can convince Landru to send you an extra special greeting.

I'm a TOS fan, not much a NG fan. That said I really loved the changes they made for First Contact. There was a reason Picard acted the way he did so it wasn't destroying the character. The supporting characters were far more interesting and everyone had a moment to shine. I love the change in art design from reversing the colors on the uniforms to the Enterprise E. It had a good flow of action and comedy with a slightly darker edge. It was the Wrath of Khan of the NG movies.

Well, I may as well take advantage of the spammer getting this thread back to the top.

So I will share that I am still sending out a newsletter every week. You can read and even subscribe here: https://startrekking.substack.com/

And I just LOVE Section 31 in in Deep Space Nine, and even in ST Into Darkness.

However, I hate it in Discovery.

--> But they are identical!

Yes, of course. That is exactly why I hate it.

Greetings, fellow humans!

I am still sending out my weekly (sometimes twice weekly!) love letter to Star Trek.
