You may not be aware of Fishman, but he runs a fantastic YouTube channel where he uploads TV and film music taken from the DVDs or Blu Ray soundtracks (something I used to do before so many things got actually released).

He's now uploading the music from the Columbo series, which is yet more proof that an official release of this would be most welcome.

Note: I'm not sure if the above comment breaches the 'no bootleg discussion', as it's just assembled sound snippets from shows that are on TV etc, or may already be in people's DVD collections. So do shut this thread down if it breaches, but if not...I just thought I'd mention it.

It's not a violation to discuss video bonus features, but it is to give false expectations. wink
These would be sourced from the "music and effects" bonus audio channel on the pricey Japan blu-ray release. Some might have less effects, but overall not music-only as implied by your thread title.
But I agree the inclusion on a retail release shows the market recognizes some value to the music, at least in Japan. But the Twilight Zone dvd/blu-ray included music-only stems and we haven't gotten a retail release of that series lately.
Sorry if I pooted on your parade.

Ha ha no worries. I tried to figure out how to say 'ripped from DVD' in the title, but there were no letters left...actually, on that topic, have the character limits for subject titles become smaller in recent months? I find I really have to drop lots of words from a post title.

Anyway, I've altered it to 'ripped'.. not sure if that's the right word but, hey ho.

I've actually been listening to this channel everyday for these - i think it was previously mentioned a while ago on another thread - and have really been enjoying the Columbo scores, as this is the only way i can hear them without watching the show. There's some great stuff in the series.

It's more of a concern for the video company than the composer, since it's MFX (music effects) rather than soundtracks. "Columbo episode MFX on youtube" would make that distinction. We link so much stuff to youtube that hopefully it's not an issue here.

Oh, bless the Fish Man. He's doing important work. I'll be listening to this during the Christmas and New Year's Day holidays.

I have the cigar box bluray set and only a small handful of episodes from the entire set actually have the special M&E only tracks as a special feature, so he had to have used the DVDs as his source for most of the episodes. Really wish Universal would have included the M&E isolated track on the set on every episode though -- or at least the episodes that had new music written for them.
