Fortunately Michael J. Lewis hasn't passed away. According to his Wikipedia page he died on the 22nd March in his hometown of Aberystwyth Wales. I was listening to his music and happened upon his bio and was shocked to read the news that he had just passed away a couple of weeks ago. I searched the fsm forum and no one seems to have mentioned it.

A very distinctive and recognizable composer, who first came to my attention when I watched the opening credits to Theatre Of Blood on Saturday night tv many moons ago. I listen to his scores quite often, his music will live on, and so does he.

It absolutely hasn't been mentioned anywhere yet that I know. Are we sure Wikipedia is correct? Can anybody confirm this? While it's certainly possible he went back to his hometown for various reasons and passed there, he lived & worked in Louisiana from what I understand.

There's nothing about a passing on his IMDB or his (reasonably active, at least up until January of this year) official Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/michaeljlewiscomposer/).

Lewis is an outstanding composer. I love his work. Somebody please confirm this if it's indeed true.

If it's true - I mourn the composer of one of my all-time favourite pieces of music. His score from 'The Madwoman of Chaillot' is fantastic. I bought the album when it came out and have never been without it.

FYI, for a dead man Mr. Lewis is still rather chatty.

The moment I saw this I called him up he picked up asked him if he was still with us had a great laugh he’s in perfect shape nothing to worry about.

Whoever posted this was either just trying to stir up trouble or is horribly misinformed. In either case he’s alive and well and whoever started this thread would you be so kind as to alter the header

Great news that hes ok.
Please pass on our best wishes Ford and that he should know - even though his work isnt as well known as it should be - there is a small army of appreciative aficionados all over the world that really dig his work.

Long live michael J

I knew it, we've done this before.
Bollocks.
And Ford...gulp...came to the rescue.
And I had an "excuse " to MJL playlist all day. Pity.

It was not done with any malice whatsoever, just didn't realize someone would alter a Wikipedia page for no reason.

My comment wasn’t referring to the person who started this thread but rather the individual who added that information to the Wikipedia page My comment wasn’t referring to the person who started this thread but rather the individual who added that information to the Wikipedia page in question.

I know. The reason I joined yesterday was because of the wrong info I read on wikipedia. My first post failed and I tried again today. A lesson learned!

Well THAT's certainly good news.

Thank you for the update, Ford smile

Interestingly enough, I have a bunch of his Promos that he himself has handed out (Lion, Witch Wardrobe; Medusa Touch; 11 Harrowhouse; The Sphinx; The Legacy) in addition to the LaLaLand release of "Theatre of Blood" and couldn't admire his work more.

I have been listening to "Sphinx" a lot lately too - a masterpiece of a score. Never seen the movie...from what I hear it's best I just enjoy the score as is lol.

Looking at his Facebook page. I am so thrown off by him in that hat. Still, I'm glad he's not dead.

NEDMERRILL, welcome to the wonderful world of Film Score Monthly!

Can I assume your moniker is a nom de plume in honor of John Cheever's suburban swimmer? I invite you to investigate some of the threads about the film that have graced this Board in years past. (I was a production assistant on it.)

Cheers,

Preston

The Swimmer is my favourite movie of all time hands down and Marvin Hamlisch's score is my favourite soundtrack. It is a perfect movie to me, I could watch it continuously. Everything about that movie I love and every time I watch it I have the same cathartic experience.
