It'll probably get yanked for copyright, but here's a sound fx comparison I mentioned earlier, at 7 seconds versus 33 seconds. The restoration adds a nice impact fx when the heat ray hits the viewer at 44 seconds (and of course, loads of effects in stereo). The colors are really beautiful, video super sharp. Really rooting for the Martians in this version.
The pulsating sound effect as the cobra head readies to fire in the remastered version is radically different. So WOTW's was "Lucasfied", by adding new sound effects?
My copy of the Blu Ray which was supposed to be delivered by two days ago has been sitting at my local post office for four days according to the tracking info. WTF?!

Same thing with my copy! It has been there since Saturday. The last time that happen with another item and it ended up being tracked again at another facility so I don’t think it is really in town.

Re-read my post on July 11 if you don't get what the comparison video is about.

I question my packages actual location too. As someone reminded me of the obvious, must be because of youknowwhat.

Ah, thxs! That explains things. I'm usually a purist but I have to say the audio does have a great deal more punch to it, based off of my iTunes version.

Mark Simone said on the radio this morning “we develop new hobbies during the lockdown such as package tracking!”

Some people dislike the 5.1 because the fx (not necessarily the martian weapons) sound too new and don't match the old sound. Maybe this is more noticeable playing through 5-6 speakers, or they're just more sensitive to the difference. With this movie, I wouldn't know there was much difference with how the meteor unscrewing fx sounds (which someone complained about). I could tell it was louder or something, but it didn't sound "wrong."
On the dvd, the wires are visible on the Martian war machine (34:34 elapsed time), but they're not visible on the new bluray. The improved detail on the bluray is very impressive compared to the dvd.
Meanwhile, my 13 year old son decided he is going to make his own adaptation of the book, trying to stick close to the book. I'll let you know when the world premiere is scheduled.

Me too. The unscrewing of the hatch sounded "louder", or perhaps it had more clarity. Again I'd say it had more "punch". It elevated the intensity. Explosions and such sounded much better also.
If I'm to believe the tracking information my Blu Ray is out for delivery today. A week late. Meanwhile another package I order elsewhere which was on time to be delivered today as well has suddenly been delayed.
Actually feel sorry for those who missed out, having been in the same position myself. And yet... there is a guilt ridden feeling of satisfaction as I read this post whilst glancing at my own copy sitting on the shelf above....sigh.
But I'm assuming the Criterion is still out there so all is not lost for the devotee.
