With regard to content, Gerry Mulligan's music was an important aspect to "I Want to Live," so I would argue that his album is every bit as important to the musical fabric as Mandel's score.
No argument here regarding content, but I think we need to be clear, though, that Johnny Mandel's score does not stretch long enough to fit onto 2LPs.
I find that distinction irrelevant, but if it's important to you, that's fine.
