Williams' two concerts at the Vienna Musikverein on 18 and 19 January 2020 were the first performances the composer has ever conducted in continental Europe. Working with the Vienna Philharmonic was "a very special honour" in his life. In addition to Williams and the orchestra, another exceptional artist was on stage in the first half of the concert: Anne-Sophie Mutter. Thus the conductor and the violinist continued their artistic partnership after their joint album Across the Stars. The new album "John Williams in Vienna" combines cult themes from E. T., Great White Shark, Star Wars, Harry Potter, Jurassic Park, Indiana Jones and other milestones in film history as well as two previously unreleased adaptations, specially arranged by Williams for Mother, for violin of "Devil's Dance" from The Witches of Eastwick and "Raider's March" from Indiana Jones: Hunters of the Lost Treasure. Of course, the world-famous "Imperial March" from Star Wars should not be missing. "One of the best performances of this march that I have ever heard," Williams noted.
The limited Deluxe Edition "John Williams - Live in Vienna" is the only version that contains the unique concert experience on Blu-ray with additional 6 tracks. Including a breathtaking Dolby Atmos surround sound mix for the perfect concert experience at home (available as video and audio-only version) As a bonus: an interview by Anne-Sophie Mutter and John Williams from the Vienna Musikverein. The six tracks cut for the CD/vinyl version are all ones featuring Anne Sophie Mutter, leaving only Devil's Dance (which is interestingly the one new arrangement JW made for her that wasn't on the "Across The Stars" album) and The Raiders March (in which she simply plays the existing Violin 1 part, it isn't a new arrangement) featuring her on the CD/vinyl.

I cannot wait to have this on repeat all day every day for the rest of forever. I'm sure my flatmate feels the same. And I'm sure my girlfriend will simply see it as an endearing extension to my captivating personality.
Hard to believe this concert was this year! Such an incredible weekend, memories I will always treasure. And so nice to be able to relive them. I've spotted myself a few times in the Imperial March video, grinning like an idiot
Before I saw the program, I felt certain he'd program a premier from Star Wars 9. And I wonder if he considered turning Marion's Theme into an arrangement for Anne-Shopie Mutter?
What a great clip of Mr. Williams conducting the Imperial March. He looks very happy. That smile when the crowds starts cheering, and then again when the orchestra delivers a superb performance. It appears orchestra and conductor really hit it off together.

Interesting. Probably the CD material was recorded at the rehearsals, without the audience (which would be the ideal package for me, CD with the 'music only' recording and blu ray with the live performances).
UK release date is still 14 August. Scala Radio is doing a Williams special on Sunday afternoon 1pm - 3pm in anticipation of this release. Is it just a Blu Ray/CD and not DVD?
I ordered my copy directly from JCP in Germany, as the blu-ray is supposed to be region free. I received a shipping notice a few days ago. Now it's a waiting game to see how long it takes to get to me in Florida.
