I have searched for existing threads on this score but have found none - so here we go.
On the upcoming German Blu-Ray release of the film the score will also be available !! I am not sure if it will be an isolated score track or indeed (also) a CD but great news nevertheless. I will update as soon as I know more.
This is interesting news. I recall the film had an odd score with a pronounced beat-music influence (maybe this is to be expected); some tape experimentation, etc. It had struck me as a bit silly, and I did not like so many German film composers at the time (save Juergen Knieper - I've since changed my mind about this). I do hope there will be a CD edition. Who would do it? Chris's Soundtrack Corner had some very interesting Peter Thomas editions a while ago.
Sad news indeed. As a tribute, I'm listening to his fascinating score to RAUMPATROUILLE and will then play two other favourites of mine, the documentaries ERINNERUNGEN AN DIE ZUKUNFT (= CHARIOTS OF THE GODS) and its follow-up BOTSCHAFT DER GÖTTER (= MYSTERIES OF THE GODS). This composer had an unmistakable style, and a very inventive one that is. Thanks for the music. RIP Mister Thomas.
That is sad news. Mr. Thomas did have a reasonably long life, and I hope he experienced more than a fair amount of happiness. His music certainly did have an identifiable sound. I had watched some of the Jerry Cotton films a while ago (trying to figure out which music from the different CDs I have came from which actual films. I don't really get the German film-music releasing style at all (were there even any 7" EPs released from any of those seemingly numerous 60's Edgar Wallace movies? If they had been released in France, I bet there would have been handfuls of them), and thought the music was quite captivating. I'm listening to Onkel Tom's Hutte right now. It has songs by Eartha Kitt, Juliette Greco and George Goodman.
The limited edition that will be released late October here in Germany will include a CD containing ca. 52 Minutes score !! Right now it looks like as if the CD will be available only in this first edition.
The only new music release I could find was an LP and MP3 download slated for November 27, no single CD.
Finally found a CD but it is a bonus disc with a VIDEO release from a company called "M-Square Classics." It'll be in the "deluxe collector’s edition, limited to 1,200 copies and numbered." Released today, Oct. 23.
An MP3 release is available for "pre-order" on Amazon, though the release date is listed as September 29th so it's unclear when it will actually be available.
What is the music like? Based on the poster, I can't help but imagine it sounding like Carlo Rustichelli or Les Baxter (I guess because they scored a lot of films with similar subject matter).
