I always forget that the GNP release of Hellbound Hellraiser 2 has about 12 minutes of this fun/derivative early Chris Young action/adventure score tagged onto the end of it.
One action track mimics The Chairman by Jerry Goldsmith and the End Title/Love Theme is Raggedy Man.
Not like Raggedy Man, IS Raggedy Man.
But it's a fun listen no less.
I read here awhile back that BSX were gonna release the whole score.
Who's buyin?

Agreed! Fun score and guilty pleasure film if you can believe it. I remember the CBC running a report on the stuntman who jumped from the CN Tower (which features prominently in the flick) back in the day, way before I knew who Christopher Young was.

Pay careful attention to a nice North by Northwest riff in the score as well.

And yes, I'm totally buyin anything and everything CY! Hopefully, BSX will one day release the complete DefCon 4.

I remember buying the Hellraiser 2 and it being on the back-end but i don't think i listened to it too much. Will have to check it out though. I've been listening to a lot of his stuff recently.

My God, do you remember when horror scores sounded like that??!!
Scary, Beautiful, Psychotic and Heartbreakingly Gorgeous.

Indeed. Magnificent! One of the many, many, many talents of Mr. Young, is his uncanny ability to go way beyond fear in his horror scores. His music always packs a huge emotional punch, capturing the very essence of a film, easily rising above what could be a mere gorefest to something sublime. As you said, Mr. McGann: Scary, beautiful, psychotic and heartbreakingly gorgeous in a nutshell.

I think the main reason i never played the Highpoint section of the CD was that i wanted to listen to Hellraiser 2 all the time on a loop, certainly when i bought it. I remember i really wanted the Hellraiser score but couldn't find it for the longest time, so actually bought them in reverse order, 3,2,1 then finally 4.

Hellraiser 3 is actually really decent but seems to owe more to Jerry Goldsmith and Capricorn One than anything else, if i recall correctly (probably not).

Been listening to the main title from this one all day.

It's such a fun, fresh, exuberant composition, with all the pep and zeal of an early J. Horner effort. His U-BOATS/WHEELS OF FIRE score from circa the same time period has this quality, in addition to the myriad Goldsmith "references".

How much score from this one is missing from the old Hellraiser 2 release?

That was the cues that Chris liked, a complete release was not something that he really wanted and we'd have to pry the tapes from his dead cold fingers in order to release it at this time.

So I wouldn't hold my breath.

What is worth mentioning is the this was a re-score of the film which was first scored by the late John Addison, when NEW WORLD got their hands on it they decided to re-cut it and replacement the Addison score with something that was more action flavored.

I think I have a videotape round here someplace of the films original cut with the Addison score that I haven't watched in decades.

Chris did a really good job on this one, it would be nice to see a more complete version, but Mr. Young doesn't share that view.

Unfortunate. How about a complete DefCon 4?

Ooh. I’d be in for a new pairing of the Addison score with the Young score, since I’m a fan of both composers.

Heck, LLL made a Jennifer 8 pairing of Jarre and Young happen…

You don't pay much attention do you?

I assure Mr. Young has NO INTEREST in seeing a complete score release of this effort, you'd have to pry the tapes from his dead cold fingers in order for that to happen.

I'm sure he'd have no issue with the Addison score getting released, he'd rather not have his released.

This pretty much goes for most anything before HELLRAISER at this time.

I know that DEF-CON 4 is on that list as well.

I pay quite close attention, I assure you. Obsessively so, even.

If you bother to pay attention to what I wrote, you’ll notice that *nowhere* did I refer to a “complete score release” of the Young score; only that pairing his work (whatever cues he might deem worthy of album release, even if it’s just a remastered version of the same cues previously available) with Addison’s work, since the Hellraiser scores have all been issued and reissued many times so repeating that pairing would be less interesting.

Seems like Young doesn't have the highest opinion of his early stuff. (I got a good laugh out of Lukas's note next to the LP of Pranks on his sell list: "Lucas (sic), great to meet you. Please don't listen to this. It's junk. - Chris")

Love his score to The Dark Half. That main theme oozes CY.

Indeed. The whole score is a CY Masterwork, at least for this long time admirer. I must have easily played this CD hundreds of times in the last three decades. Just wonderful, heady stuff.
